This will mean little to folks who don't live in Charlottesville . . . but I walked a lot today.

I dropped the Ford off at Battlefield Ford for the annual inspection. They were booked up til after lunch. I had to decline the courtesy shuttle (car seat issues), so I grabbed the stroller and headed for the Rivanna Ridge shopping center on top of Pantops. Had coffee, did some grocery shopping (just stuff that will keep). Then headed downhill. And I went all the way downhill, to the River. Followed the Rivanna Trail to Riverview Park. I pushed Ronan in the swing, changed his soggy diaper, and tried to nurse him. He was too intrigued by the playground, so we hit the swings again. Eventually, Ford called. We walked back.

Ooof. Only 5.25 miles, but it seems much further. And after picking up the car, I saw a bank board that gave the temperature as 95F. No wonder I was beat!

Oh, well. Ronan enjoyed most of his ride. There were plenty of doggies on the trail and semi trucks on US 250.

Urban miles are much harder than trail miles. For me it is about 1 urban = 2 trail miles. I need to get out and hike some more.

This was kinda sorta both. Half was along a major US highway on the outskirts of town (think US 40 east/north of B'more) and half was along a paved bicycle/pedestrian trail alongside the Rivanna River through woods and meadows. Mostly urban, though, given that there was pavement. I couldn't take this stroller off-road.

Whew, that's a lot of walking with 1. Charlottesville's hills 2. the heat.

Crossing 250 is scary (as is 29). Done similar (we have a Ford), but not in 95 F with humidity! Ugh! Yay for Riverview at the end of your first journey, and for the wooded cover on the Rivanna trail.

(Also have taken the #10 bus downtown... not so bad either)

I thought about taking the #10, but I had the stroller. It's such a hassle.

I crossed 250 in a lull on the way up to Pantops--I actually preferred running across 4/5 lanes to crossing at the light. Drivers hardly ever see pedestrians at the light. :/ And yeah, scary.

On the way back, I crossed under 250 at Free Bridge and hefted the stroller up the stairs next to Autozone. I noticed that the county side of the river also has a trail that I could've used to cross under the highway.

In retrospect, I should've asked if their shuttle driver could shuttle me in my OWN car. ;) That would've avoided car seat issues.
