Someday, Ronan will use archive methods like the WayBack Machine and discover that the entire world knows he has an intact penis.

I hope he's proud and relieved. I hope he realizes that I love him so much I couldn't bear to let a doctor forcibly rip off one of the most sensitive parts of his anatomy.

Not that we were planning on it, we don't believe in non-consensual unnecessary cosmetic surgery.

And if he ever has kids of his own, he should know firsthand that circumcision is never an option for a normal, healthy baby. There should be no question.

But yeah . . . Ronan, if you're reading this many years from now, know that we bucked tradition and made sure you were left whole.

Luckily, we have pants. This cuts down on the social impact of the state of the penis.

When he is in his teens and sexuality ramps up, the penis will play a big roll (if he is lucky). While you can make good choices you can't change people and many people, specifically girls and guys in the locker room, may not be familiar with the uncircumcised look. This can cause anything from teasing, to curiosity, to our right horror for those who's sex ed is limited.

Prepare him for it.

I am circumcised and my brother is not (my parents aren't very decisive). I got to cruse through social penis acceptance, but he got the joy of "OH MY GOD, WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOUR PENIS!?" because he had the unfortunate luck of exploring sexuality with a girl who's sex ed was walking in on her brothers in the bathroom.

Everything, EVERYTHING is tough in the teens, and this will be no different. Good preparation and communication can prepare him.

Also, maybe with the internet, current and future teens will be more penis savy and already be aware that they come in various shapes, sizes, and outfits.

There is also the "teens never agree with your choices for them" clause of parenthood.

Fortunately, tides are changing and circ rates are dropping.

People get teased on the basis of *anything* in school. Red hair. Eyeglasses. Intelligence. Not having a belly button. Having an outie. Facial hair. Boobs.

Most of the guys I know have told me that locker room teasing of penises would result in social suicide for the teaser, because who the hell looks at another guys' nads? Homophobia for the win!

I'd say the only real trauma is having a woman recoil in fear from your genitals. Avoid that and he is golden.

My advice... whip it out all the time. That way there is no surprise later!

definitely. my brothers and husband said this is some sort of urban legend. i'd ask around to the guys you know about whether they ever teased/were teased/ saw teasing... bet the sanswer is no...

All of the guys I know who fit this description have said that they weren't teased-- any insecurities came totally from within their own brains, and were quickly put to rest when they finally had a serious relationship.

good for you! i'm really glad i had girls, because this was going to be a major battle between my husband and i if we had had a boy. he has since changed his mind on the issue, but when we were waiting for Storm to be born, we had several very tense discussions about it.
