I woke up well before 8am today. Wide awake, but tired.

It's so freakin' early that the dog didn't even expect to be fed. He just came out with me, hopped up on the couch, flopped on his back, and proceeded to snore.

I made an amazingly tasty spicy chicken pizza last night. Pineapple-chipotle bbq sauce, sautéed red onions (caramelized would've been better, but it was late), tequila-garlic chicken, roasted red pepper, fresh mozzarella. I added feta to one slice, just for kicks. I used a WF GF Bakery crust, too, so I've got leftovers that will come out for breakfast at some point this morning. Boy was suitably impressed. He keeps me around because I feed him well, or so he tells me when I'm sacked out on the couch, surrounded by the chaotic clutter that I attract.

The $&#@* ants are back in the kitchen. It's a yearly thing. They weren't too bad last year, but that's because I (as boy put it) sprinkled enough cinnamon to run a CinnaBon all over the window frame and sill. I suggested that we relocate some of the icky spiders from other windows to that window. He might just try that. We don't open most of the windows (spiders + pollen), so it's a feasible solution.

Someone told me the city market starts up today, but I thought that it didn't start til April. I don't really wanna go down there just to find out. I'd rather stay here and work on the second room.

We call it "the second room" because it's not going to be a bedroom yet, nor will it really be a nursery. It will have the baby's furniture and the glider/rocker, and we will store diapers and clothing in there. But it will also still function to some extent as an office/sewing room. We plan to co-sleep for awhile and will sidecar the crib to our bed. The second room won't be turned into the urchin's room for at least another year or two. In that time, I might be able to figure out what to do with our limited space. ;)

Do you have a bassinet? That's what we kept Bryant in beside the bed. Actually, it was the same bassinet that I had slept in 28 years before!

No. We don't have room for both pieces of furniture. The crib will get used much longer. I can adjust the sides/mattress height, so it'll be a decent sidecar.

The city market doesn't start till next week. Boo.

And did the cinnamon really help? Ants have invaded my African violets again, and I'm getting desperate to stem the tide.

Cinnamon seems to mess them up neurologically. I feel kinda bad if the cinnamon gets on them--they twitch and jerk and then die dramatically. I've made cinnamon "caulk" to lay along lines outside where they come in through mortar cracks. They don't cross it.

We had a small ant problem last year too. I hope they don't come back. I like the spider idea.

I know you don't like poisons, but a few drops of Terra (Terro?) will have those little suckers carrying it back to the nest and will destroy it.

I hate ants. We have problems with them every year when it rains.

Before S. was born we transformed our office into his room and our library/spare room into the office/library. We sadly no longer have a spare bedroom for guests. We still don't have the office well-sorted. The limited space thing is rough (our house is kind of small) and I find with the baby the house just keeps getting smaller and smaller.

S. just started sleeping in his own room a few weeks ago after being in our room since birth. (his room is only about 5 feet from ours, but he is a really light sleeper and he was getting too roused every time I moved in our room). Until then his room really was just used for changing him, storing his clothes, books and toys and was where his crib lived, which he still doesn't sleep in (he sleeps in a co-sleeper dropped down so it is like a pack n' play). Now a goodly portion of his toys live in the living room where he plays most the time.

Best wishes to you your ast few weeks pre-baby!
