Lemon schaum torte

I've never made meringue before, but we just put our first shell into the oven.
Speaking of the oven, I think the thermostat is on the fritz. We don't use the dial so much as the small store-bought thermometer. The dial always seems to be off (and cooking times/results confirm this). I don't know if the coil is worth replacing, or if we should just wait for Sears or Lowe's to have a 6-12 months same-as-cash and buy a nice, new, more energy efficient stove. I mean, I know what I'd *like* to do, but I'd much rather keep that money in reserve for new cabinets, which we desperately need.
As for cabinets, why the hell hasn't Ikea released their little kitchen planner program for the Mac yet? I don't install programs on machines I don't own (like the work PC) and I don't like being on this PC, anyhow. While I'd much rather get nifty gorgeous wood cabinets, those aren't anywhere near my budget. Ikea is in my budget. They have some nice looking cabinets for the price--which should hold up for the next dozen years, I should think. Hope. Pray.
Anyhow, back to the cooking. We're making this. Yum. I hope it turns out well. I was licking my scraper and the whisk attachment for the Kitchen-Aid while boy squawked in the background. I'm apparently not only delicate, but pregnant, and he doesn't want me eating raw eggs. *slurp* I better not let him read up on raw goat cheese, lunchmeat, and sashimi, eh?
Schaumtorten sounds like such a dirty word. I think it should join the list of child-friendly invective (a very short list thus far, mostly consisting of fluffernutter).
