My iBook has been stuck in Memphis for a week, with a necessary part on hold.

This machine was manufactured in mid-2005. WHY THE HELL would it take THIS LONG for a part to be located? Was there a run on power ports? Logic boards?

I want my iBook, dammit. My email is piling up and I can't keep up with any of my internet addictions. Sure, I have other things to do, but I was researching stuff I need, like cloth diapering. I have pictures to edit, lists/groups to moderate, and time to waste. Tom's about to come in here and start work for the day, plus his workstation is really uncomfortable, anyhow.

The usual reason is that that particular part ended up breaking A LOT more than expected, and is one that is very difficult to schedule fabrication time for.

They actually have had a lot of power port problems.

Some of the reason's that this can happen, is the dead boards get remanufactured for replacements. that can be a time intensive process, and can cause shortages. Apple doesnt make an unlimited supply, so if there has been a spike, there can be delays down the road.

I'm just irritated because I had the lemony G3 model which had repeated logic board failures. Apple always got the machine back to me within a couple days (pick up day 1, fix day2, back the third or fourth day). The G4 is the machine Apple issued to replace the G3 after the fifth or sixth logic board replacement. I'm really irritated that the replacement machine lasted just a bit over a year. And we do have Applecare, which is great since an extended warranty program hasn't been announced for the lemony g4 series. Ah, well, maybe I'll get an even newer machine after the next few logic boards fail.

Honestly i havent seen a whole lot of issues with the G4 series laptops. I honestly think i've seen more spills/drops on them, then spontainiously bad logicboards.

I had one and beat the shit out of it for 2 years, and its still going strong.
