My arm still aches. I think that will be the story of my life for the next few weeks. What's more, the pain triggers worse fibro pain and some muscle issues, so I wasn't able to handle Jericho on his lead while we were hiking. Poor boy had to keep hold of him the whole time.

I'm about to go make things even achier by gardening a bit. I don't know if I have the right tools to turn over the soil effectively right now. I still need to replace my Claw--that's about the only tool I can use at length without excess pain.

I think I'll let Jerry come outside with me. He likes managing (overseeing). And I'll probably find lots of grubs to toss in the tray feeder.

I'll see if I can't get a round bed formed for the pineapple sage. About two feet in diameter, well turned to about six-eight inches deep. It'll be rough, but I think I can do it today. I'll need to go pick up edging stones and some mulch/soil, too. Of course, if I had some soil/mulch, I could just do my favorite no-till newspaper lasagne gardening method. Decisions, decisions.

If anyone sees an old pitchfork at a farm auction sometime soon, bid on it for me. The compost needs more frequent turning. It's doing pretty well, but I could get the pile even hotter if I had a pitchfork.

Damn, I have a pile of spare pitchforks in my garage (long story). If the post wasn't prohibitively expensive and probably illegal, I would send you one. Hope you find an alternative.

thanks for the thoughts. :)

One can buy pitchforks, but they're usually rather expensive and/or shoddily manufactured. Dad suggested I keep an eye out for farm auctions so that I could buy an older, well-made one.

Yeah, mine are sort of adopted from an old farm charity, that I'm vaguely trying to find new homes for. They're pretty much bullet proof. I have pictures of them in that "classic American couple holding pitchfork photo" pose. If you can't find a new one, let me know. I'll send my US/UK mate over with one as hand luggage and insist she finds friends of friends of friends to get it in your direction somehow. Meh, how far can it be from South Carolina to you ? (Excuse hideous lack of geography....)

*dies laughing*

I'm relatively certain the airlines wouldn't approve of carry-on pitchforks.

SC is anywhere from six to ten hours, depending on the part of the state one is visiting.
