I like the snow.
Feb. 13th, 2006 03:34 pmSo, I'm thirty. Like any other birthday, I don't feel any older. I'd say I feel achier, but that's a given. It's as though I'm permanently stuck in my early twenties when I fell ill, only I have even less responsibility now than I did then.
We had folks down from DC this weekend for the opening weekend of Hedwig.
lotsofmonkeys and
yurikokinje arrived Friday and went to the 11pm show that night. On Saturday, Homer and Morgan arrived blew in with the snow. A few folks came over to help us eat the chicken, wild rice pilaf, and my BIRTHDAY CAKE!
Tom ordered my cake from the Hungarian Lady. She made my cake gluten-free, soy-free, peanut-free, etc. It's pretty good. Yummy chocolate layer cake.
Anyhow, Homer and Morgan went to the 8pm show while Fil wandered around downtown. The rest of us watched random things on video/dvd/TV and drank. And then we drank some more. I stopped getting drinks for myself after awhile, but they kept *appearing* in my hands. Darn little gnomes, getting me all liquored up.
I spent my thirtieth birthday quietly, with lots of water. Lots and lots of water. And more water. Homer, Fil, and Morgan left early Sunday morning. Tom, Jonah, and I joined Bri for coffee, then the three of us went for a snowy mountain drive. We managed to visit the Blue Ridge Pig, where I discovered I could eat the smoked turkey. It's good. After our long drive, we went home for dinner, then went to TJMC's Soulful Sundown, where The Naked Puritan Philharmonic was playing. That was pretty darn good.
Jonah and I watched the rest of Elfen Lied, which I really enjoyed. It's creepy, disturbing, and sometimes really squicky, but I liked it. And I got lots of sleep last night, then woke up to see Jonah off this afternoon.
So . . . I'm thirty, there was cake and booze and porn and anime. Yep. Stuck in my early twenties forever more.
And oh, yes, my parents sent me a thong. I'm pretty sure it's for the husband. And I think they bought it from the Naked Guy. I should be scared, right?

I can really relate to this. I feel like my life has been on hold while other people I know have moved forward. Sounds like we were about the same age when we got sick.
