dinner battle #1
Oct. 2nd, 2005 07:33 pmTonight's kitchen battle:
explodingcat: an exquisitely prepared crusted catfish fillet
krasota: steamed broccoli with a creamy pumpkin walnut sauce.
While
explodingcat wins points for presentation and skill, he made a critical error when he assumed the no-name seasoned salt was generic Old Bay. This rendered the fish nearly inedible.
krasota wins the day with her innovative and quite tasty vegetable dish, full of plump raisins and delicately scented with five-spice powder. It goes quite nicely with the side dish of wild rice.

Date: 2005-10-03 12:08 am (UTC)Toss a couple tablespoons of butter into a hot saucepan. Melt and add one small onion, chopped. Stir around, toss in a handful of chopped pecans (did I say walnuts? oops. those would work, too, as would pine nuts).
Ask husband for some raisins, watch him toss in about a quarter cup of sultanas. Stir around a bit, toss in a large forkful of pureed pumpkin. Stir around some more, stir in another forkful or two. Shake in some five-spice. Add a tablespoon of parmesan. Reduce heat, add a quarter cup or so of half and half (or heavy cream), stir around. Toss with steamed broccoli, salt and pepper to taste.
This would also go great on pasta.

Date: 2005-10-03 12:38 am (UTC)an evening in the kitchen with sarah and the husband
Date: 2005-10-03 01:21 am (UTC)sarah: broiled chicken breast marinated with teriyaki sauce, white rice with a touch of curry and sliced apples with cinnamon
the husband doesn't realize that you have to defrost meat before cooking it, saws hamburgers into chunks, which turns burgers to a lovely shade of black outside and still raw on the inside. there were no noodles because he forgot to turn the water on to boil. he goes to mcdonalds again.
while sarah, being a culinary goddess, provides a nice and perfectly edible meal. she snickers at the husbands lack of culinary skills.
***true story*** :P

Date: 2005-10-03 10:20 pm (UTC)- At some point in the evening Dave wanders into the kitchen, washes a bowl and spoon, and pours himself a bowl of cereal.
- At some point in the evening, I heat up something prepared (lefotvers, a co-op deli meal, canned soup).
I like yours better. :)
