Cleaning makes me break out in hives. Unpacking books and magazines makes me itch like mad. Dust, pollen, mold spores . . .

Maybe I should just get the house clean for once and then hire someone to do the dusting and floors weekly. I wonder if we could budget that in. Less hives for me, more frequent attention to problem areas for the house . . . motivation to keep the house tidy . . . motivation to actually get unpacked . . .

and maybe, just maybe . . .

LESS ITCHY MADNESS

Sounds like a good idea, and you've got the health incentives to make sure you don't feel guilty (like i would) for having someone else clean.

I'm thinking about getting some relatives to chip in to hire someone to clean my grandparent's house. Grandma's too old to be cleaning herself!

I keep considering that, just from motives of pure laziness though.

my trouble is getting the house tidy and clean in the first place...

ignore me if this is too obvious or not effective enough, but I have a husband and daughter who are allergic to mold/dust spores. Every time I used to dust or vacuum they'd be stuffed up and itchy for days. Now I keep a big bottle filled with distilled water and a few drops each of lavender and tea tree oil (for the disinfecting), and I spray this up in the air thoroughly in every room as I finish dusting/vacuuming, and their symptoms are almost nothing now.

However. Maybe that's something for the hired cleaner to do, as he/she is finishing up. I can't see that helping if it's still *you* doing the dusting.

oh, duh. I think it pulls the airborne particles down out of the air. That's the "why" of it. I'm sure you figured that out already, though.

Aye. I'm severely allergic to lavender, though, and moderately allergic to tea tree oil. Water itself would probably do the trick. If you ever need [livejournal.com profile] krasota repellent, lavender does the trick. ;)

holy cow! you do have a [livejournal.com profile] krasota FAQ somewhere with all of this stuff marked down?

I think I do, but I doubt I marked it in my memories. ;)

Assume she's allergic to everything unless she explicitly states she's not. It's the safest way.

I think boy is the only thing she's not allergic to at all :-)

I'm allergic to boy right now--he ate a ton of soy-infected stuff yesterday.

Well what did he do that for??

Bad boy!

No, wait, he brought you a Coke. Offerings of caffeine. Maybe he feels he must make amends for his soy injestion ;-)

We were travelling. He gets a dispensation on travel days since he has to eat constantly and it can be hard to lug a whole day's worth of food in a hot car. We didn't have time to pack a cooler or anything. Keep in mind that just about *anything* pre-prepared or fastfood contains soy right now: bread, mayo, some mustards, some cold cuts, chicken strips, dressings, dips, etc.

He brought me coke because I've been begging for one all day and it was easier than listening to me cry for caffeine for one more minute. ;)

Yeah, that's true. You two have the most incompatable eating needs of any couple I've ever met, but, hey, it seems to work :-)

Mmmmm, caffeine good. I may see if my tummy can handle some tea...
