• after having over a week's notice, inform me that the nearest truck is over 30 minutes away in lanham, md.


• when my husband and father arrive in lanham at 9am, have the franchise dude say "huh. no, we have no trucks. and you're not the first folks to have reservations who stopped in today. weird."


• then neglect to call me back several times while searching for A truck, ANY truck. leaving me no option but to keep the phone line open (unable to call friends to warn them not to come help just yet).

can you see me seething?

They are apparently notorious for pulling such shit. It happened to my sister a few years ago when she moved too. I don't know how they stay in business with a reputation like that.

The one time I rented from U-Haul, the seatbelt had been cut almost through. When I pointed it out, the manager offered me a free (okay, half-used) roll of duct tape to fix it with.

I had that happen to friends this summer. They called Ryder, and Ryder was able to cut them a deal and get them a truck within 45 minutes.
