I had a feeling that it might be the logic board.. what you described is what happened to Gabe's iBook. Twice. :/ Apple replaced his iBook.. but we also have Apple Care. Hopefully, this won't cost you too much. Good luck!

It should be covered by Apple. This specific component failure is well-known and part of an extended repair program.
