Allergies are nasty today. I'm feeling a bit better after a few cups of tea and tons of meds. Boy turned on the extra HEPA filter/purifier, so that helps, too.

The show last night was excellent, though there were sound problems galore. Perhaps the acoustics of that place just lend themselves to muddy sound, but muddiness wasn't the only problem. I don't generally hold bad sound against a venue, though. And, hey, when one's vocalist sings in the feedback range, managing sound can be quite a challege. Still, dropping out boy's vocals and wildly changing the sound levels on the guitar and keyboards and background cd is annoying. I understand that some of that was due to shorting powerstrips.

(I do hold excessively loud bass against the Outback, but only because it makes me quite ill. Plus, the Outback is so small that excessively loud bass is just . . . wrong.)

Nancy Raygun was nice. Drinks were mixed well. Actually, my double vodka with cranberry was so strong that I gave half of it to solieri, as I hadn't eaten enough to handle that much cheap vodka. Plus, I wanted to take my meds when I went to bed around 4am. _sacrosanct_ seems to be a pretty nifty night. It's a shame I can't make weeknight events that often--I have trouble making them in the town I live in and Richmond is quite a drive for someone as sleepy and sick as me.

We bought the new Ego Likeness CD and I bought a tshirt to crop. Plus, I have Silent Muse buttons (being a band wife, I suppose I should advertise).

The venue seemed empty. I'm guessing the holiday and the DC Faith & The Muse show stole some of the audience. It's a shame, because Silent Muse rocked, despite the sound snafus, and Ego Likeness was brilliant. I know Jim and Jaide and their compatriots work really hard to pull on the night each week, so kudos to them!

My husband is a very talented pianist. I just think you should all know that. He's going to steal all of your socks for his amazing stinky toe cheese sock piano, too.

Nonelf could hear my vocals better than at any other show. So many different opinions about last night.

Maybe my opera training is already working, and he just heard my natural voice above the amplified band.

Your vocals started off low, I think 'cause they forgot we needed them, but by the time we got to where you really shine in the song anyway, I could hear you fine.

Mind you, nonelf was, at first, closer to the stage than Jos, and when she went up to the stage she could hear it, so it's quite possible they only put your vox in the monitor, which is sad. . .

Perhaps we need to consider sound checking my vocals while actually playing a song to see if I can be heard, rather than just the basic "testes testes 1 2 3."

The sound was certainly... WEIRD, but from where I milled around, it wasn't too bad. I especially liked when I sat down during Ego Likeness -- the sound was really sweet, then.

Hmmm... maybe the bass is part of the reason I hate the Outback so much. I feel much more uncomfortable watching shows than I ever did at the Rose or other venues. (The reason I stand right next to the stage is in hopes I can put my head *in front of* the speakers, and thus not be hit with it. Usually works other places, not so much there.) The ever-present creepy fat guys staring at "them freaks" also makes me dislike the Outback, too. Nanci Raygun has more of the feel of a club, to me. Much more comfortable in that respect. AND IT HAS VIDEO GAMES!

I am deader than dead today, even though I slept to nearly one PM. Uguhfugh. I was supposed to run errands in Charlottesville today, but I'm dead... so I'm doing it tomorrow. Wanna do anything?
