Adelphia customers, especially Cville folks:

Have you had crappy connectivity for the last few weeks? We've had a LOT of connectivity issues. Adelphia denies that there are any issues in our area, but they always deny problems.

Cville folks, want to recommend a better provider? If it means uptime will improve, I'd seriously consider switching to DSL, though means I'll have to rewire the damn phone lines in this house.

Yes I am having problems with Adelphia latelty including some TV channels being crackly or the video being all blocky like you are watching a movie on your dialup connection. I don't bother calling support, because I can talk circles around them and their supervisors. Most of them don't even know what DNS is, among other things.

DSL might be slower though perhaps not seeing where you live, the upload will only be like 256K though. *shrug* Ntelos has some type of portable broadband that might be worth looking into. Obviosly I dont' much about local options yet though.

We only use Adephia for 'net, not TV. DishTV makes me much happier than Adelpha could ever hope for.

You should call when you have problems, otherwise they assume it's all peachy. Of course, calling is frustrating and seems futile to me.

So as to cut down on actual logged calls and to make their "reported problems" list very, very short.

We had major issues with our cable connection for about 3 weeks back in May or something (and I'm 2 blocks from you). Finally, after dealing the phone support for about 4 hours, I managed to talk my way past the phone support up to the actual routing department (in Colorado I beleive) and somehow got someone on the line that either faked knowing enough about standard routing and ASN packaging that I was able to convince them that a) there was not a problem with the cable modem, b) my computer (actually, my router) was smarter than thier phone support, and c) they should send someone out to my house to look at the cable connection between the house and the telephone pole. Turns out that either a possum or a squirrel or some kind of obnoxious creature decided that my cable line near the ground was a rather tasty snack and had been slowly gnawing on it (which was why my connection was deteriorating slowly over time as more and more wiring was exposed, and then cut). If you know where the line comes into your house, you could take a flashlight and try and trace it all the way to the street and see if you find any break points. Once they find the broken section of cable, it takes all of 5 minutes to splice a repair connector in. And, since you are leasing the lines from the cable company, everything is their resposibility (look in your "terms of service" contract for your cable bill). You aren't even allowed to really move the cable modem if you read some secitons of the EULA in a rather totalitarian way.

Gotta love those things we give up for a little conveinience. Now I just wish I could afford to launch that low orbit geo-syncronous death-ra... err, I mean, communication satellite like I wanted to...
