rootofnewt: (cooking)

My family doesn't like my cooking. Most of the time, they won't even taste it, but they insist that it must be horrible. When they do taste it, they make a big show of gagging. My mom is usually better about it, but not always. Heck, my dad refused to try any of my mozzarella caprese salad, my brother gagged on it, and my mom was rather blasé.

They pity [livejournal.com profile] explodingcat for having to put up with my evident lack of culinary skill.. He assures me that he thinks I'm a wonderful cook and that I'm better than a lot of family cooks he knows. He gets paid to say all that, so I'm not sure I can trust him. After all--his father is a gourmet chef... boy could just be trying to make me fell better.

I'm starting to get paranoid.

If I've cooked for you, did you like it or hate it? Be honest. I won't poison you the next time I have you over for dinner.

I've had your hummus, your zucchini bread and your pita. I think that's it. Delicious, every bite. Especially the zucchini bread! I would eat if you cooked.

My family acts the same way about my cooking, partially because of an ill-fated recipe for "zippy carrots" as part of a 4-H project when I was about 10, and partially because I don't cook anything containing meat. They really love it though. I just know they do. At least, I tell myself so.

I'll pass the official verdict on your cooking once I make that curry recipe you posted quite a while back that's still tacked up in my kitchen. :-)

I've had a wide variety of foods from you, and liked all of them enough to eat seconds. *grin* It sucks that right now you and I are on such different food tracks, because we both like unusual flavours and aren't afraid to experiment with food from all cultures.

I haven't had any of your cooking in person. However I have tried a few of the recipies you have shared here and they have all been good.

I think your family just has a case of the unadventurous midwestern palate ;P

I made mozzarella caprese salad for dinner with my mom last week and she actually liked it, despite being somewhat hesitant at first. I think the unadventerous midwestern palate is the culprit, especially for people of our parents' generation who thought all the newest packaged convenience foods were the greatest things ever, despite being bland and lacking in nutritional value.

I liked the meals you made when I visited, except for the pseduo-Asian dish with the rice noodles and your faux soy sauce. But then, I hate Asian food as a whole and most especially things with soy sauce.
