I know I said I'd be dead today. I'm only mostly dead.

I'm out of my super secret cheating tea. Yes, I'm out of Celestian Seasonings' decaf green mint and peach-apricot-honeybush. Sure, I have plenty of loose tea (and some really *nice* loose teas, at that) and a few other boxes of bagged tea, but those cheating teas are so nice on days when I don't feel like moving.

We're also out of onions. I sense a need to visit Whole Foods tomorrow.

It was great to see Sarah and Rick. We had fun chatting and eating yummy pancakes. We'll see them again in a couple weeks for their party.

We enjoyed the DevilDriver/Moonspell/Opeth show. We got to the venue around 6:45pm and there were already 30-40 people in line, maybe more. [livejournal.com profile] yurikokinje joined us soon thereafter. We all stamped our feet until the doors opened--we did see [livejournal.com profile] javafiend and [livejournal.com profile] nothingoth when they showed up to wait in line. I ran upstairs and grabbed a seat, as did Jonah and Tom. Chad and Jean joined us, though not in time to have seats. Fortunately, I'm short and people can see over my head. We had fun spotting Kim's bobbing head in the mosh pit below. The bands were good. Devildriver isn't quite my thing, but they were more than adequate as an opening band. Moonspell was hilarious, as usual. Opeth rocked.

Sunday morning, boy and I ate pancakes and chatted with Sarah and Rick. Eventually, we bid them farewell and left, picking up Jonah on the way to lunch (Med Deli. YUM!). Then we headed downtown and hung out in the Sackler, Freer, and African galleries. We mostly viewed some travelling exhibitions.

Freer: Birds and Beasts in Japanese Art, Guardians of the Law: Chinese Luohan Paintings, and Mr. Whistler's Galleries: Avant-garde in Victorian London
Sackler: Love and Yearning: Mystical and Moral Themes in Persian Poetry and Painting
African Art Museum: The Ancient West African City of Benin, A.D. 1300-1897 (permanent), The Ancient Nubian City of Kerma, 2500-1500 B.C (long term loan)

We headed back to NW to pick up some stuff from Jonah's apartment. Said hi to [livejournal.com profile] quix... admired jonah's new 17" ibook, the left. we ran into Fil as we were leaving, said hi and bye. hit WF for dinner, then drove cross-town to wait in line. i ate my cream puff (yay, dinner!) quickly, before my fingers froze off. around 7:09, we looked up in awe at a -8mag Iridium flare. waited in the cold... then were eventually let in. grabbed balcony stools again. :) eventually, [livejournal.com profile] flynnk and [livejournal.com profile] cuppe appeared. i spotted [livejournal.com profile] rat_bastard on the floor and harassed him. i also harassed Jimbo (both nights, actually).

the two opening bands--meh. musically, soso. vocally? well, we'll not go there.

the gathering...

i've never heard a band mixed so perfectly. normally, i can't hear bass lines. i just feel them in my gut. i *heard* the bass and it didn't hurt too badly! everything was incredible. they put on a good show, anyhow, but they're so damn good. anneke's voice is *incredible*, but we all knew that. it was a really good show. i really can't do them justice. just... wow.

dropped jonah off after the show, set for home. got in, showered, went to bed.

And that's how I spent my weekend. I'll go rest now.

It was good seeing you two as well. Thanks for visiting!

I read the review from the Sunday night show in the Post and found it amusing.

The last line of the review made me laugh out loud on the Metro:

"[O]ne was left with the distinct impression that even Swedish death metal has its soft and cuddly side."
