this week, i have seen lots of ice halos, including sundogs, tangential arcs, circumzenithal arcs, part of a parhelic circle, and 22deg halos. Yesterday, I watched a slim crescent moon, followed by venus, set between thin clouds and the horizon.

the "backyard" behind the development here is a wetlands conservation area... it faces roughly WSE. this makes for pretty sunsets.

I've found that a decent (um, okay, even CHEAP) pair of sunglasses can allow one to make out rainbow spectra more easily with sundogs and tangential arcs. I've only ever seen rainbow-like zenithal arcs, though this was the first time I've managed to see them and know what they were in a long time--boy couldn't see them, so he thinks I'm nuts. ;)

Actually, sunglasses sometimes make it easier to see *any* ice halos.
