well, my dosage varies. i have 500mg capsules. i take 1000mg/night these days. i used to only take it when outbreaks were imminent and a week thereafter. i've also taken different dosages at different times. 500/night... or 500 one night, 1000 the next.
when i'm having an outbreak, i often double or triple the dose (lots of water).

i think 1000mg to 2000mg is the standard daily dose, usually split up into two doses of no more than 1000mg/apiece.
i try to avoid foods high in arginine when i have an outbreak.
prior to this outbreak, my last all-over (lips, chest, fingers) outbreak was nearly a year ago. l-lysine works for me. ;)
oh, i have four valtrex caps left... but they're nearly two years old... been in a cool, dry, dark cabinet for those two years, but i'm not sure i should try 'em. ;) i think i'll see if my doc will give me a 'script tomorrow.
