Date: 2003-10-11 07:13 pm (UTC)I've seen you (and I believe talked to you once or twice) on the fibro community. I've just moved to C'ville from hot, sunny California, and my bum knee, which usually twinges a bit in December/January is starting to stiffen up full-force. As I said, this is horribly off-topic, but do you have any advice for where I could look to find a cane in the area? I've never needed it before, so have no clue where to even start.
Thank you, and again apologies use and abuse.

Re: I'm horribly off-topic, I know...
Date: 2003-10-12 02:31 am (UTC)Otherwise, Richmond or DC would be your best bet for a pretty one. For strict function, any medical supply place should have one. Heck, some CVS stores carry them, though I'm not sure if any local ones do.
How are you liking Charlottesville? It's a fairly damp year (okay, it's positively sodden), so I imagine you might be more twingey tha usual.
I'm not usually up this early. In fact, I'm not usually just walking in... I was dragged to post-club coffee.
If you'd like to meet up sometime during daylight/twilight hours to chat or have a cup of tea, feel free to speak up. I'm quite fond of Twisted Branch on the downtown mall, but I like Higher Grounds and can even manage Starbucks. ;)
Re: I'm horribly off-topic, I know...
Date: 2003-10-12 06:41 am (UTC)But the nights are still a shock :)
I'm not sure where the Twisted Branch is. Is the Downtown Mall you're referring to the Historic Downtown district? I've been once and my brain couldn't process much more than "omg! there are 50-million bookstores here" I've really barely dipped my toes in Charlottesville beyond the Corner and Barracks Rd. *laugh*
But, since I just realized I hadn't actually said it as yet, yes, I would love to meet up some time.
And thank you for your advice. I'll check out the local CVS and brave that scary country-crafty store in the mall. (I hate going into stores where I don't feel like I can turn around because everything is packed in so tightly). I'll also look for the place you mentioned on Cherry. I do still have some time to dwadle before I really need to worry.
Once again, thank you. :)
Any time.;
Date: 2003-10-12 10:53 am (UTC)When I was talking about the country kitschy store, I was talking about Fashion Square Mall on 29 North. most folks will distinguinish between the two by referring to the indoor mall as Fashion Square Mall. The store is between Belk and Penney's, across from Spencer's.
If you like used bookstores and can breathe in them, there are a plethora of them downtown. Daedelus is the most well-known. It's basically three floors of bookshelf labyrinth. The two garages downtown have tickets which can be validated (two hours free) at various stores and restaurants, including CVS.
Twisted Branch is a teahouse at the north end of the DT mall. It's up a flight of stairs, so it might not be the best place to meet, though it's quite comfy upstairs.
I am *so* paying for staying out so late. My body has declared mutiny.
Re: Any time.;
Date: 2003-10-12 11:07 am (UTC)And I knew which country-crafty store you were referring to in Fashion Square. I've been in it (the mall, not the store) once before. I actually need to go again to get my cellphone looked at. Which will provide me a reason (excuse?) to check the country clutter shop as well.
And, north end of the mall... is that the side toward Regal or the side toward.... whatever's on the opposite side of Regal?

Date: 2003-10-12 11:45 am (UTC)I'm always up for pizza at Christian's or a cuppa something warm at one of the myraid coffee houses in town.
Re: Any time.;
Date: 2003-10-12 11:52 am (UTC)As for my normal 'active' schedule, it's usually between 11am and 11pm. I tend to be more of a 'day' and 'evening' person than a true night-owl, but I'm much more comfortable in the pm than the am.
