we're out of salad, carrots, mustard, both kinds of balsamic i normally stock (white and regular), lunchmeat, string cheese, and a few other things. trying to hold out til tomorrow so we can stock up at Whole Foods... it's their quarterly charity day, where they give something like 25% of their sales (or is it profits?) to a local group. This year, WNRN is the beneficiary.

i also need cracker barrel sharp white cheddar, but i can't get that at WF, so maybe i'll make a teeter, giant, or kroger run today.

i managed to shower. and i got dressed in something more than i was wearing earlier. sure, i'm wearing an old tshirt of the moscow metro system with orange Operation! cotton pajama pants, but i'm not quite as nekkid.

i've also got a loaf of spelt bread in the bread machine. yes, boy, that's what it is. i was gonna let it be a surprise, but i can't wait two hours to tell you.

the fridge needs cleaning. serious cleaning. the weird freezing cycle it's been doing had a rather nasty effect on the bottle of sassafras extract... the *glass* bottle nearly *full* of extract. i have sticky astringent goo to clean up + shards of glass to remove. the bulk of the stuff was still frozen when i removed the shattered bottle yesterday, but there are still pools and shards to deal with.

the fridge has been naughty. freezing everything... we've turned up the temperature, to no avail. i hate to tell the landlord that another appliance is going, but i might have to. he replaced the stove simply because it was ancient... his dryer just needed a new belt, but i needed a dryer right away, so he moved his and brought our set in (he's sold his or is trying to). he replaced all the outlets... had a new circuit put in... put an outlet in the shed so we can mow more effectively. i hate to tell him the fridge is on the fritz, but it's his responsibility and *in his best interest*. i try to remind myself that i would want *my* tenants to let me know when something isn't working properly.

i'd like to see Bruce Almighty before it leaves the cheap theater this week.

i have the fabric cleaned up from the center room. i need to clean the kitchen floor, do some dishes, and the bathroom needs more cleaning. i also want a vacuum for this damn carpeted room. *one* room with carpet, but it's light-colored. i generally get down on my hands and knees and *brush* it clean when we have guests sleeping over, then boy follows and dustbusters up the little piles of detritus behind me.

the weather has been lovely. i should try to remember to hose out the bins M borrowed so they can dry and be cat allergen-free.

why does the medical profession treat menopause as a disorder?

No I haven't, but it seems like something I would enjoy.

A former manager of mine told me a story about when he was in the Phillipines as a soldier. He was hitting on this random girl who didn't speak a whole lot of English in a Restaurant, and at one point complimented the dish he was eating, though he had no idea what it was. At the end of the meal, she took him to this shop that appeared to be a Pet Store, and pointed to one of the cutest dogs he'd ever seen. He assumed she wanted it, and wishing to score brownie points, told the guy in charge he wanted to purchase the dog. The man took the dog, went into the back room for about 10 minutes, and came out with a butcher's bag. You can guess what was inside.

She just wanted him to be able to cook his favorite dish for him.

It's kind of a sad story, really, but interesting nonetheless. . .
