sounds about like the storm we drove through on our way to richmond awhile back... near 0 visibility, *trees* down on the interstate, penny-sized hail, trees bent double, lightning striks all around.

of course, when it happens in a metropolitan area, it's a bit more dangerous.

i love storms simply because we can't control them. i'd have loved to see that storm in DC today.

I caught the northern bit of it. It was quite something. Torrents of rain, wind shaking the windows (recep came into the meeting room where I work, which has windows all along one side, and asked if I wasn't afraid to be there--I told her no, that either the windows would not shatter or if they did and it was enough to affect me then I probably had little to worry about anymore), very dark skies. Very cool.

Took Boy two hours to get home (more than double his usual travel time) due to signal lights being out, trees being down, and at one point there was a powerline down across the Beltway!

That damn storm put down a couple of my dahlias. The other two were in plant supports (peony stands). Need to go by home despot and get a couple of more and hope I can train them back up. Kras, you got any advice for this?

There were actually two storms yesterday, one in the am and the one that knocked power out, slaughtered trees (hey, storm, you're butting in on my gig!), blew over small children, and made the Baby Jesus cry. I wasn't outside for the second one, though I know we here in Loudoun County weren't hit all that bad. Okay, in the Broad Run subdivision near me in Sterling there were biiiig trees uprooted, a few houses fallen upon and even two houses that were condemned, but nothing like the rest of the area. I was online for the first storm, staring out the sliding glass door at the deck when the rain came white and whipping, the trees snapped back and forth as in a grand mal and the wind howled. Ahhhhhh, love me some storms :)

No clue. I don't grow pretty flowers. If the stems aren't broken, you might be able to train them up, but they might never stand on their own.
