I'm really frustrated. My browser (IE 5, mac OS9) recently stopped displaying Cyrillic properly. I've tried fixing the problem in the preferences. No good. I can't TYPE in LJ in Cyrillic, either. Since I do have friends who write in Russian and I like to occasionally reply in kind, this is a rather annoying problem.

The really weird thing is, if I try to force a character set in IE, LJ's pages ALWAYS revert to UTF-8.

I think I'll see if Opera can handle it.

Also, I've noticed lately that the non-loading web page error is back. Grrr

For what it's worth, Apple's Safari is finally out of beta.

Once upon a time, Mac IE 5 was hands-down the best browser out there, but it's showing it's age now. And from what I've read, M$ has recently discontinued development of IE for Mac.

and krasota's running OS 9...

Safari is, alas, OS X only, so since she is stuck with OS 9, she cannot know the joys of being enlightened by khtml.

Actually, the most likely cause of the issue is either font conflicts or possibly data corruption on one of the data forks of the fonts.

And what exactly is a non-loading page error?

Try going into ie's tools->internet options and delete your temporary internet files. Under windoze, ie 5.x gets twitchy when I get too many cached files.

I can't remember the number of the error, but LJ support told me if was caused by some sort of conflict between the way OS9 and IE work and (i think) their new load balancers. It was REALLY bad from early this year until a few weeks ago, stopped for awhile, and has now resumed.

When the error happens again, I'll give you the code.

Initially they tried to tell me that my Open Transport was out of date, but I have the most recent update for OS9. I realize OS9 is obsolete, but isn't everything?
