Spring officially sucks
Apr. 2nd, 2003 03:42 pmI can't wear my contacts. Why? My eyes won't stop burning.
This means I can't go outside during the day, because I don't have prescription sunglasses.
I think I need to call my doc and get another 'script for Patanol. I haven't had spring allergies this bad in awhile. I'm breaking out in hives all over and my eyes are nearly killing me. I wish there was a decent antihistamine that actually worked for me.
I'm taking loratidine during the day. It barely keeps the hives in check. I'm still itchy and have a few welts. I do notice a difference in energy, though, which is a good thing. The chlorpheniramine really *was* sedating me, though I didn't notice because I'm always so tired. There is a visible difference. Of course, it might work better right now, so maybe I should take it instead of being mostly miserable on loratidine.
I'm taking pseudoephedrine during the day, which helps with lots of the sinus issues. I'm also doing nasal irrigation at night, during my before-bed shower. Showering before bed is a MUST during allergy season. I don't need extra pollen sleeping with me! Boy hates this, as nighttime showers mean super curly hair the next day, but he'd rather not sleep with a snot-beast who tosses and turns and scratches. Of course, the more frequent showering + city water = dry, itchy skin, which isn't the best medium for the daily hives.
At night, I'm taking dexbrompheniramine (Drixoral), which is actually knocking me out. I'm not sleeping as soundly as I should (still can't find my melatonin and this neighborhood is MUCH noisier than I'm accustomed to), but I'm falling asleep fairly quickly.
I need to be drinking more water. It's hard, though. City water is so icky, even Britafied. I think I need to see if we can afford to buy water, but I dislike using water stored in plastic jugs (it tastes like plastic). I won't cook with water unless it's been through the brita or a pur filter. And I only water my plants with water that has set for a day or so (lets the chlorine dissipate).
AUGH. itchy burny eyes, runny nose, hives. This sucks. Stupid trees having sex in my sinuses.

Man, I know the feeling, Indiana used to tear me a new one all year round...I was on allergy shots...I quit taking them when I came here, and so far no problems, but don't know what will happen once spring sprungs and the tree's start getting kinky here.

Date: 2003-04-02 02:09 pm (UTC)I received allergy shots for several years. They made me worse. They helped some of my brother's allergies, made the rest worse. Immunotherapy just isn't for everyone, most definitely including me.
Virginia is worse than Indiana for me. It's slightly warmer, and this area seems to have more biodiversity (and DIFFERENT stuff) than where I grew up, plus ornamental landscaping is VERY popular. I'm much worse here than I was back home, though Indiana made me itchy, too.
I need to get this place unpacked and the floors clear so I can run both the air purifiers. I have one running in the main room. I need to get my bedroom's running (the vents in there are closed for now, so that helps, but I'll want AC before long). It's not quite hot enough to run the AC, but too hot to not open the windows. We *could* run the AC, but I want to wait until the tech looks at it next week (to make sure it's in good working order).
Maybe I should put vent cloth over the open windows. I've got a bundle.

Vent cloth would not hurt, it could filter out the majority but still allow you some air in the house. I'd say give it a try.
