Updates on various things...

The house has been rented. The young couple I liked have taken it. Yay! No more showings!

We have a moat. I'll try to take pictures in awhile. The stream that ran through the basement when our landlords bought the house? I suspect that it flows beneath the tarps. The sump pump is running non-stop and water is *pouring* into its well from the south side.

We're going to go into town to pick up a set of keys to the new house. We'll also stop by the mall for the Chinese New Year festival thingy (a little late, isn't it?).

A couple days ago, I was gazing out at the birdfeeders when a large, black dog bounded into view from around the side of the house. Boy said, "That's the strangest damn bird I've ever seen." I went out to call the black lab to me, but it took one look at me and bounded off toward the road. I had no shoes and couldn't keep up with the dog in the melting, but still cold snow, so I gave up. I did put some shoes on and wander out five minutes later, but it was gone.

Boy announced five minutes later that he knew why the dog had run. It was ashamed of knocking stuff off our back porch, including the trash can. The trash can was opened (it's a locking can) and the bags were strewn about.

Later, I saw a *different* black dog bound up. This one had a purple collar (the first had a red one) and came up to me eagerly when I stepped outside and called softly. I grabbed his collar and called to boy, who got the phone and dialed the number on the tag. No answer.

I stayed outside with Major (his name) and asked boy to look up the number on google, which would turn up an address. Then I asked him to map the addy. It was a farm probably a couple miles away across the fields, but 3-5 by the roads. So we hopped into the car (lots of towels, but the dog hopped right onto the covered back seat and laid down. I sat beside him).

Boy drove around to the farm and we drove down the LOOOOONG driveway, which was slightly flooded in parts, iced in others. We got within a couple hundred yards of the house when I saw that we would get stuck if we drove further. There was a light on in the big house, but nobody answered. The paths and driveways were all cleared somewhat and there were cars around that had been driven recently. More importantly, there were more dog tracks. ;)

I opened the door to get some air and asked Major if this was home. He bounded out, walked up to one door, listened, then bounded off around the side of that house, where the other tracks led. I'm pretty sure that he knew where he was, so I didn't chase him. We went home and boy left another message at the number, saying that the dog decided to stay at the house. ;)
