Common Flickers - one pair, eating from the plowed ground near the driveway.

Rufous-sided Towhees - at least one, possibly a pair... eating from spilled seed near the feeders

? some kind of wren- at least one pair, the male of which is dancing and singing a LOT from timeto time. he stands on top of the LP tank cover and hops in a circle, stopping every quarter turn and singing. sometimes he does a complete circle, rather than stopping at the next quarter. sometimes he does one circle, then spins the other way. and his song is very loud and distinct. eventually, he flies off, then a female sneaks out from beneath the tank and takes his spot. They look and sound like wrens, but they twist around trees like a brown creeper (walks up and down the trunk, spirals around from bottom on up). I'm not sure *what* they are, because I can't see them in good light.

we also had a pair or two of white-throated sparrows show up this week. they are *fat* and chase each other viciously, yet leave the millions of juncos alone.

we still have our finches, chickadees, titmice, jays, and juncos. and the doves are starting to show, no doubt due to the snowy ground.

the crows have been enjoying the plowed driveway.

the nuthatch has been landing on the feeder, perching UPSIDE DOWN, and prying out seeds from the loose spot where the case fits the bottom. silly birds. i love nuthatches.

need to buy more suet. boy says he might drive into town today. i'm too tired/spacey to drive. i can barely read.

i want to lure the cedar waxwings back in. maybe they'd like some raisins or blueberries.

I was up to see my dad that day and we were sitting in the dining room at the nursing home.. 7 ducks flew by which is waaaaaayy too early for our area. They are like at the very least 8 weeks early! Hope the buggers are going to be ok- its still frigid at night and supposed to be cold again on tuesday. Like -25C during the day! Not much open water around here right now maybe the odd stream.. so who knows where they are hiding.. so maybe they know something.. like spring will be early?? heh.. oh and i've added you to my friends list :) Allison/Pandora
