i blame ebay and boy himself. he made the mistake of once sighing and saying, "i want a pet tumblweed."

we decided tonight that i should email the seller and tell her how much we've adored the tumbleweed and point her to boy's journal.

yep. i didn't want to introduce it to this portion of virginia, so we kept it bagged, then boxed, then bagged again for several months, shaking it periodically and changing the bag, which we tied shut and discarded in the trash... when i'd gone through a couple changes with *no* seeds, we let it roam free.
