i love winter birds.

we've been watching blue jays (who were in the yard all summer, of course), gold finches, house finches, tufted titmice, pine siskens, thrushes, and juncos on the front porch. we have two thistleseed socks and one birdfeeder with a mix of seeds. i must've bought a good mix, because *nothing* is going completely uneaten.

i really love the way the thrush hops up to the pokeweed, snatches a berry, then quickly hops away. there are little pink pokeberry juice stains in the snow under the weed. it's awesome. :) i'm so glad i didn't pull the weed earlier this year. i decided that the weed was there for a reason and left it for birds to enjoy. and they're definitely enjoying it!

the juncos will scratch at the snow to get any seeds that have falled down.

tom's seen a few woodpeckers on his morning walks past the willow oak. i'd like to see some nuthatches. we do have cardinals, but they haven't been up close. maybe they'll hit the suet feeder soon.

and we haven't spotted it from close up, but some of the birds are eating the cat food. *giggle*

the sparrows flock to the area boy shoveled and to the spot where the car sat during the snow (i moved it yesterday). they like the cleared spaces and are finding stuff to eat there.

it's fun to watch them. boy has a great view from his work desk. i should go make him some lunch.

we cleared off the kitchen table and have been eating there. i've been going to bed by one or two am and getting up around 11-noon. he really likes sitting in the kitchen and eating with me. :) and it's something small i can do to make him a little happier.
