I just spent about 40 minutes sweeping the deck. I didn't finish. It's ankle deep in leaves and acorns. Hello, fall.

Tom's finishing the last corner. I had to come sit down. I think he's going to take recycling, too, but I might try to help him with that. Or maybe I'll stay here with the dog and work on some more laundry.

I could make potato kale soup. Yum.

My parents gave us their old deck furniture. It's great--comfy, sturdy, substantial, and (free!). Those all (okay, not the free bit) conspire against me, however. The cushions keep best when covered (plus, bird shit isn't fun on cushions). The deep shading they give on the already shady side of the house means I now have areas where algae is growing. I thought algae needed more light than that, but apparently not. I've moved the furniture around and when the deck dries out, I might try scrubbing it with something. I can't treat the deck this year if there's green shading. That would just look weird. Of course, by tomorrow, we'll have another inch of acorns.

I hope the ground is still soft tomorrow. I'd like to plant more bulbs.
