So, yes, we did hike down to White Rock Falls with
nannar. It's one of my favorites. I love the round gorge, the narrow cascade of the main fall, the curtain that drips or sprays right beside the pool, and little falls below this cascade. The water flowing beside moss covered rocks leaves me quite content. It's all so gorgeous.
It's a quiet place to sit and read or take pictures of one's wife's boobs. (Yes, I'm wearing the Rivet Goth shirt made by
originalcynic. I bought it for the high levels of irony expressed when I wear it--normally with a pouffy crinoline and stripey tights and ribbons in my hair.) This tree appears to have eaten a snake.
explodingcat pointed out the "rather large pebbles stuck under those boulders".
Water in the Blue Ridge generally isn't safe to drink, as it's been polluted by old (and abandoned) mining and farm operations. Oil is a big problem. This stream wasn't visibly oily, but I only use the water to wash my face and arms. I figure that the water's safe enough to swim in, so it's probably better for my skin than my own sweat, which gives me chemical burns.
