local group seeks to end UVA med school dog lab

there are other options. i think that the students advocating for the class sound horrifically uncompassionate, but i realize i am highly biased toward dogs.

even though it's not in the online article, the front page of today's newspaper has a picture of a UVA med student with "Clyde, a dog lab survivor. I think the dog might be his pet, but I could be wrong. Cylde appears to be a beagle. he doesn't look as happy as most beagles do. i wonder how confused he is. :( I hope he *is* now a beloved pet. The student in the picture is the med student and co-founder of Citizens for Human Medicine quoted near the beginning of the article.

So, I looked out the window early this afternoon (I didn't get up til 1pm) and it was already snowing. I called to boy, "It's snowing." Awhile later, we decided to run the errands which were quite pressing (I ran out of allergy meds, he needed his prescription face wash). So, around 3pm or so, we headed out onto the snowy roads.

First, we hit WalMart. I buy my loratidine there because I can get two months' for less than 15 bucks. If I could afford to pay twice that much to buy from CVS or Giant, I would. However, saving little bits here and there is what allows us to go out to shows and whatnot.

We stopped at Kroger for kleenex and gas. Then drove downtown (it was becoming increasingly snowy, mind, and the roads were not salted/sanded/plowed at all) and hit CVS and Christian's. Mmmmm, pizza. We're home now, but I need to take boy to his band practice. And I need to feed him vegetables. Not in that order.

there's a couple inches of snow now. we're due for several inches of snow and sleet. happy times.

I took [livejournal.com profile] explodingcat over to [livejournal.com profile] solieri's place. I think they're doing some recording. I hope boy doesn't become contaminated with soy. He forgot to remind Patrick to not touch soy and then touch the microphone he borrowed earlier without washing his hands/mouth. Dammit. I almost told him he couldn't bring it back home until he washed it completely, but I don't want to force him to ruin/toss a perfectly good mike just because it might make me sick.

My feet hurt. It's cold out and I don't have any *warm* boots. I wore thick socks with my 20i docs, but it wasn't enough. Before we left, I shovelled the front walk (scraped it, really). Over an inch of snow had fallen in an hour, so we had nearly three inches on the ground. If we get sleet, it will compact, so I wanted to at least scrape the snow to the side and put down some salt.

When I came back, I filled both bird feeders. I looked for the new suet I bought (hot pepper) last week to put in the new suet cage I bought tonight, but can't find it. I wanted to hang it on the tree so I can look out the window tomorrow and see the woodpeckers. They fly over to the hanging suet cage (where the squirrels can't get it), but I know I'd see them more frequently on the tree.

I'm a bit cranky. My lips are chapped and my allergies have been acting up. I get that way sometimes. I have ICQ open and my mood will probably improve as the night goes on.

My feet really *hurt*. So does my neck. Where do I apply for a new musculoskeletal system?
boy pointed out to me that, while cats are only half-domesticated creatures who permit humans to convenience them, they still do some remarkably interesting things. for instance, cats who cut through our yard nearly always use the sidewalks.

when i went out to fill the bird feeders, i sat little cat foot prints in the yard-walk which goes from the front sidewalk around the house and out back to the shed. if i'd walked out, i could've figured out whether it was one of the cats who climb the fence, or the weird one who squeezes beneath the gate.

they don't walk in the grass. they use the sidewalk. so weird.
[livejournal.com profile] xiane's show [livejournal.com profile] subshock is on WNRN. If you like goth music (deathrock, darkwave, industrial, etc), listen!
Tonight I saw a man riding a unicycle in the snow.
We heard the beginning of a song... it skipped. then... dead air.
[livejournal.com profile] explodingcat: that's not good.

then we hear the opening notes of "Salieri"...
[livejournal.com profile] explodingcat: that's better.
