awake

my fever was at 100F yesterday, though i didn't let that stop me from going out.

the kind barista at starbucks let me know that the tazo chai crПme frappucino *DOES* have soy in it, despite what other baristas at other locations have told me. this could explain the eczema, dishidrotic eczema, random hives, and asthma probs I've had all summer. When I sighed (after having started to drink it) and pushed it aside, she made one for me out of cream, milk, ice, and chai. It's not as thick and creamy, but it was a really nice gesture. From now on, I'll just get iced chai (if it's warm) or cocoa (if it's not).

the pain's been getting worse... the doc told me i didn't have to lay low and take it easy, so i've been going out of the house. it was really hard sleeping last night, though. i woke up a lot. so i called the doctor a few minutes ago (just woke up). i left a message with the receptionist, so i should get a call back. my temp this morning is 99F. my normal temp is around 97.

went to the station with [livejournal.com profile] xiane and [livejournal.com profile] nothingoth last night. ended up coming home around 4am.
i have the bestest husband in the world. he calls the doctor for me, he walks down to the corner store to buy me cherry coke, he'll call the pharmacy, and he'll pick up my prescriptions. he's so wonderful.

he might even go to the farmer's market with [livejournal.com profile] xiane so that i can have yummy veggies. of course, if the codeine actually *works*, i'll go,too.

and when i spill my soda and am having trouble leaning over to clean it up, he does it for me. see? he's amazing.

the doctor thinks i have a virus of some sort, since the pain's getting worse and my temperature was up. he's just confused at my lack of a cough, which would generally happen, i guess. *shrugs* i'd rather not cough, as crying, sneezing, hiccups, swallowing, and breathing already hurt like hell.
I missed the delightful [livejournal.com profile] onceupon's birthday. happy birthday, sweetie. :)

And [livejournal.com profile] ozzi_dawg was apparently a September puppy... i think he's just trying to garner as many birthday greetings as possible, though... ;)

do you have the urge to cause me to feel great joy and happiness? post pictures of your companion animals. it can be other pet-related things: photos, drawings, anecdotes... real or imaginary. distract me. i love seeing pictures of pets and i sometimes peruse pet photo communities just to say "awwwww"...

don't let me hog all the love, either. feel free to post in your own journal... share the love! fill my friends view with love and joy and good humor!

and while you're at it, vote for Diva, a lovely would-be spokesdog who lives with [livejournal.com profile] littledevi! look at that adorable sheltie! i once lived with a sheltie and she was the most loveable dog ever! she loved to jump on my head first thing in the morning while she shared the news (there are trucks across the street! let me herd them! let me let me let me!) every single day. she claimed the couch for her own and managed to look graceful and stupid all at once. she was the most intelligent female to ever play the "airhead" game. she had us well trained. in Duckie's memory, vote for Diva!
yummy lentils and rice

32 oz broth (i used one carton of Imagine Organic No-Chicken Broth)
1 cup wild and brown rice mix
1/3 cup chana dal, rinsed
one small red onion (almost a baby onion, about 1/4 cup chopped), minced
4 baby carrots chopped finely
1/4 large green pepper, diced (about 1/3 cup)
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 cup currants and/or raisins (i used a small handful of raisins, and a larger handful of currants)
olive oil
tomato paste (in a tube)
curry powder
salt/pepper/trocomare

1. heat a tablespoon or so of olive oil in a saucepan. start chopping the veggies--carrots, onion, garlic, pepper--and saute until they begin to soften.

2. Add the chana dal and 3 cups of broth. Bring to a boil. Add rice and boil for five minutes, then reduce heat all the way to low and cover. Simmer for 20 minutes, check and add the final cup of broth along with the currants and raisins, cover and simmer for 25 minutes more, checking and stirring after 10 minutes and 20 minutes.

3. Most of the liquid will be absorbed and the rice and dal will be perfectly cooked. Spoon into bowls and serve. Add tomato paste and curry powder to individual tastes. I added about a teaspoon of paste and a 1/2 tsp of curry powder to my bowl. I could've used more tomato, but was being cautious.

Enjoy!
