rants

I need to get out of the house. I've showered, but have yet to dress.

Local folks... anyone up for anything? [livejournal.com profile] mbickers--Mr. Hank's? [livejournal.com profile] originalcynic, are you still in town? [livejournal.com profile] xiane is probably at work, as is [livejournal.com profile] mrjustice... [livejournal.com profile] blackradish, are you awake yet? I think [livejournal.com profile] red_frog is out of town... [livejournal.com profile] briskpepper, are you off with your other girlfriend?

Actually, I don't need to get out so much as I need to *see* people. I'm all up for folks coming over for strawberry shortcake or something.

I have a 3pm foot appt tomorrow and an 11am doctor appt thursday. Otherwise, I'm free and eager for human contact. I assume flyering tomorrow night is on? My blisters are mostly healed now.

I really wish our health insurance offered some type of discount with boy's gym. After all, by working out and staying fit, he's saving the insurance company hundreds of dollars in nutritionist, shrink, drug, and lab fees. At least his cost-of-living pay increase will cover his gym fee, opening up about 70 to spend on bills and other things, like the acupuncture that really helps him but isn't reimbursed even partially by insurance.

I need to buy new shoes. They won't be cheap. They won't be pretty. Hopefully they'll at least be black.

[livejournal.com profile] explodingcat went for a walk and brought home a can of cherry coke. He's my sweet, sweet slugmuffin.

The peaches aren't quite right for pie just yet. Soon, very soon.

boy used the last razor blade and I can't buy any until friday. my hair grows slowly, but my deo stone works best on very bare skin... i need to shave my pits, dammit. the hair's about three millimeters long and it's driving me nuts. and, while my pit hair is less coarse than his facial hair, i don't want to dull his razor. that makes no sense, does it? (we have two razors that use the same cartridges.)

people who believe bonsaikitten.com is real are misguided. people who pass around petitions clamoring for its removal from the web are just as bad as folks who burn books. when they pass around the petitions to several email lists, claiming the site is real, they're idiots who don't take time to research, in addition to being as bad as book burners.
I went to The American University in DC. It's adjacent to the Spring Valley neighborhood.

As I was catching up on [livejournal.com profile] lotsofmonkeys' journal entries, a particular line from a Post story caught my eye:
"More weapons of mass destruction have been located in Spring Valley over the past four years than have been found in Iraq"

The chemical weapons program was more or less *started* at AU. The campus was leased to the government during wartime and this is what was done.

Spring Valley is a *pricey* area. Ambassadors live there, houses are large and gorgeous and yards are meticulously landscaped. A lot of stuff uncovered was in AU's intramural practice field. The childcare center on campus was closed and moved after high levels of either arsenic or cyanide (I can't remember which) were found in the soil of the play yard... It's been an ongoing problem *publicly* for a decade now.

The really sick thing? Most of my friends and I just treat it as a sick, cynical joke... We joked around about ordering extra sides of mustard powder, or about petitioning the university to provide us with the hazmat suits worn by the inspections team whenever they walked onto the practice field.
