blah. nothing to do today.

no dawning, no plans, nothing going on.

i think i'll check the weather. if it's not *too* hot, maybe we'll go find a new (to us) waterfall.

oh, hrm. severe thunderstorms possible/likely. it's 86 here, with a heat index of 90. high of 93 today...

blah. unless we opt for someplace with a swimming hole, i don't think hiking is wise. that's a possibility, I suppose.

of course, it will be cooler in the woods... hrm...

there are a couple waterfalls that are short hikes, not *too* strenuous. we're going to go do those. by the time we get there, the heat of the day will have mostly passed. we have trail mix, powerade, and lots of water and ice in the cooler.

we had taco bell for lunch. YUM.

i need to put new batteries in the camera and find the discman bag i carry it (and the trail guide, first aid, knives, and flashlight in).

i also need to remember to put together a snakebite kit one of these days. it's really irresponsible of us to hike in the blue ridge without one. i have a knife and a mouth, though, so i can always tear strips of cloth, cut skin, and elevate limbs.

we'll have our phone on us in the car, but not while hiking. there's very little coverage where we're going, anyhow.

we saw staton falls (well, from the top. the rocks were *too* treacherous to traverse down today), panther falls (we swam there, actually), and a small cemetery. we also stood on the blue ridge and watched a bright pink sun sink behind the shenandoah range, way across the shenandoah valley. we took the parkway all the way to I-64 (about 45 miles), which was nice. lots of deer, black cohosh blooms, and bugs.

forgot to pick up my nexium prescription--i hope the heartburn doesn't hit in the middle of the night.
