i'm making an orzo salad with feta, tomatoes, roasted peppers, and some fresh herbs. the tomatoes are optional, [livejournal.com profile] mactavish. balsamic vinegar, olive oil, salt, pepper, oregano, basil, parsely, thyme, lemon zest... maybe some chickpeas...

nobody tell boy that i also put marmite in it<
so, i read the word poutine and had the sudden urge for fresh fries covered with gravy and cheese.

i looked in the kitchen. eeep! not enough oil to fry. EEEP! not enough palm shortening to melt... wait, i can use some of *each* and still have a little oil left on the shelf! whooppeeee!

so... i cut up, rinsed, and dried two idaho potatoes... when the oil sizzled a piece of bread, i tossed in half the potatoes... fried them til they were toasty. meanwhile, i started a packet of brown gravy (vegetarian, organic, soy and mushroom free, somehow). i added a little tennessee sunshine... then realized it needed more tang and bite... hello, tamarind chutney.

not having fresh cheese curds and boy yelling "HEY, YOU CAN'T HAVE MY COTTAGE CHEESE!", i opted for half fresh mozzarella and half shredded aussie cheddar.

hot gravy, hot fries, melty cheesy wonderfulness.

even boy is eating it.

and he's supposed to be in bed. ;)

sure, there's no lard, no chicken/turkey gravy, no fresh cheddar curds... but this is damn good and tasty.
