Sep. 22nd, 2001 02:45 amwoke up around 1:30pm. too damn early, but it was bright in the room. I've been staying up too late again... and I haven't re-hung the curtains, so the bedroom is bright bright bright. It's not so bad if I go to bed before 2am. That's not likely.
So, I kept missing the bus and ended up taking a bus around 4pm to the metro, then I metroed to Rockville. Went to the Container Store (oh, orgy or orgies) and then wandered down to Fresh Fields, where boy was to meet me at 5:15... He was late, so I went inside and wandered aroud the produce section.
Hint: if your loved one hates grocery stores, hit a GOOD one on a day when they have LOTS of samples.
Boy was quite happy when he found me because he got to eat all sorts of yummy bites. I picked up a buttload of groceries, then realized we had to carry it and picked up some more. Boy carried most of them--he's good at that.
We headed home... while waiting for our bus, we ate some of the roasted potatoes I'd picked up in the deli. YUM. I love those.
After getting home, I fixed a new recipe--Yellow Velvet (Vegetarian Times, Oct 2001). It's yellow squash, corn, and a little heavy cream, parsley, and butter. So simple, so comforting. I was happy. I think I'll add cheese next time. We also had boy's lazy broccoli. He boils the broccoli for a few minutes, then tosses it with a little olive oil and balsamic vinegar and garlic pepper. It was quite nice and simple. We also had a small piece of baguette with Amish yogurt cheese. A very satisfying dinner.
Afterwards, we went to Giant to pick up a few staples: beans, brown sugar, cereal, milk, ricotta, etc.
Later, I caramelized a Vidalia and roasted a bulb of garlic. Then I puréed a can of white beans (drained), tossed in most of the roasted cloves (ate several) and all of the onion... then I added a bit of parsley, cumin, olive oil, salt, and pepper. I might add some pepper tomorrow, but it's quite nice right now. We had a little bit with some tortilla chips.
I think boy had a bowl of ice cream. I had some triscuit-like crackers and some pineapple. We ate a bit more balanced than usual. ;)
This is probably the first day in a week that I haven't had half an apple (we normally share an apple before dinner).
So, tomorrow, Fettucine alfredo... It's the lower-fat recipe in next month's Vegetarian times. I really don't need full-fat alfredo, though I LOVE it. All this cheese is going to kill me. I'll try to find some greens, too. We're going to have visitors.
I'd really love to go downtown (DC) for the pagan pride celebration, but my feet hurt too badly. I walked WAY too much tonight and I didn't go all that far.
I did wear a happy outfit today. Happy outfits make all the difference.
I wore:
+ my old combat boots--comfortable, even though the soles are split.
+ black/white stripey tights
+ black fishnet shirt (longsleeve)
+ black tshirt with the moscow metro system map on the front and a metro token on the back
+ black denim miniskirt which buttons up the front
i liked it. a lot.
