My brother is going to the Bay area for a week (work). He'll spend the weekend of 4-6 April in SF proper. Anyone want to recommend good seafood/sushi places?

He'll spend this week in Pleasanton, CA. Flies out at OMG o'clock tomorrow morning.

My paramours Ginger and Samantha moved out there in January. I will give them a call and see what they have discovered so far.

Ariake, Geary between 14th and 15th (38 bus). Cheap, *totally excellent* sushi. If he doesn't want to go out that far, Sanraku in Lower Nob Hill is definitely good (but not as good) and still relatively $. Taylor and Sutter (3 bus).

If he has multiple $$$ to blow and wants an experience, Aqua and Farallon are both excellent high-end seafood restaurants. As far as cheaper seafood, you got me. I like Farallon because it has glass chandeliers shaped like jellyfish.

There is so much good sushi in SF. Two particularly good places are:

Ebisu in the Sunset district
Noe Valley (on Castro St)

Yeah, when I was there, I pretty much just said, "oooh, sushi!" and walked into the nearest place that looked reasonably clean. Veggie rolls were my go-to snack.

He should go to Japantown in SF. :) Fun place to walk around. Most of the restaurants are pretty good, though I'm partial to Takara. There's an unlabeled place on the outside of the Japantown mall proper, called Kiss, which is supposed to be pretty good. Check yelp.com for instructions on how to find it. I've been too lazy to try it.

If he happens to be in or near the Metreon, the Japanese restaurant in there, Sanraku, has interesting fusion stuff like a jalapeno-marinated tuna. Prices are reasonable.

Tell him to avoid the Todai buffet in Pleasanton unless he likes tons and tons of all-you-can-eat meh sushi (which my husband does like, alas--I tag along solely for the bite-sized, delicious desserts). Actually, as long as he's in Pleasanton, if he has a car he can pop over to Yuki in Fremont, which is the best sushi place in this area (and they smoke their own salmon!). Take 680 S to the Washington exit, turn right on Washington, turn right on Paseo Padre. It's in the shopping center just past the Driscoll intersection. Their lunch combos are a really good deal. (This route also takes him near some kind of Persian/Russian deli which is fun to poke around in.)
