My right lung hurts. More specifically, I have a pain toward my back ribs on the right side that is worst when I breathe deeply. Feels kind of like an icepick. Hurts to lie on my back. I can't sneeze because I can't do that initial breathing in thing. Just stops short when the pain sears.

I can't figure out if it's costo (acting up in a much different place than usual) or if it's a remnant of that asthma attack I had. I'm also short of breath, but that could be asthma (pollen is crazy high) or a reluctance to breathe deeply. I can't really isolate a specific area between the ribs that seems inflamed, as I normally can with a costo flare.

I've not felt something quite like this before. It's really disconcerting. I hope it can wait til Tuesday. I probably should've called my doctor this morning (it started late last night, out of nowhere). I just figured it was a muscle spasm.

Very weird. I wonder if I should not go hiking tomorrow.

That's how I described the pain my gall bladder gave when I would get an attack. It would eventually pass. Some places say you get nausious with it, but I never did.

I've never had a specific spot ache with the asthma, but I think my attacks are different. I get an all over tight chest feel with the inability to breathe in much.

I've never had a lung-type pain with my costo. Maybe you shouldn't chance hiking unless you feel great tomorrow - if it was pneumonia or something, hiking would really aggravate it.

I agree with your first poster. Sounds like a gall bladder attack. It is not uncommon up to 6 months after having a wee one either. Call me if you need me, okay?

does it radiate though? Are you nauseated with it? Kidney stone maybe?

Thanks! I did some twisting and bending and poking and prodding and I've now narrowed it down to a couple ribs and spots on either side of my spine. I think it's structural. I'm not nauseated, feverish, etc. My abdomen isn't at all tender. In fact, other than some asthma, I feel great.

I think that it's either a new costo spot or something out of whack with my spine. My sternum is starting to feel tender, too, which is more typical for my costo flares.

Don't ask me how I'll cope if it's a severe costo flare. Oy.

I'd offer you a hug, but it sounds like it would hurt. :(

I hope you feel better soon.

Question: at what point do I need to seek medical attention in case it's *not* just my asstastic ribcage?

I'm not good at judging pain since I experience it constantly. New pain always has me both worrying about a cause and dismissing it as "can't be that bad". And my loved ones remind me that this is how I ended up with cardiac tamponade five years ago.

Normally I'd just suck it up for one more day, but tomorrow is a holiday and my GP won't be in the office. It's been non-stop since around midnight Friday night/Sat morning. Very weird.
