Now that I'm a mom, I have yet another reason to appreciate Starbucks: changing tables that appear to get wiped down at least once a month. Oh, they may do it more frequently, but I do take my own mat/cover or an extra receiving blanket. I like that the table is almost always within reach of the sink, too--not that I ever turn my back on Ronan. I like that the bathrooms are usually single room, though I know the one in Waynesboro has multiple stalls. The single room is nice--I can pull Tom in with me. He can entertain the baby while I do the dirty work (Tom changes his share of diapers, but I'm sometimes faster). And then he can redress Ronan while I wash my hands and pee. And I can't complain too much about the fact that most of the stores only have changing tables in the women's rooms--if it's a single room bathroom, men can use it, too, no matter what the sign on the door says.

And we ended up at the Starbucks I rarely frequent today--Hollymead. I prefer to *not* frequent the sprawl-of-doom north of town, but we needed to check on something at Target. (Sorry, [livejournal.com profile] ez_mo, I know I swore I wouldn't go, but gas is three bucks a gallon, so I can't justify Richmond.) This Starbucks still has comfy chairs (NO!) and footstools. So I nursed Ronan while Tom nursed an unsweetened iced tea, then we went to change the baby's diaper. Most excellent.

The only other Starbucks in town which still has cozy seats is the one on the Corner by UVA. They have a second story full of couches and armchairs. The other Starbucks have all reverted to wood chairs and small tables, in order to serve more traffic.

As for Target . . . we finally found a toaster oven. We'd not been able to find one we liked at any other store in town. We found one that is perfect--and it was on sale. I hope it doesn't catch on fire as much as the old one has.

I did not, however, buy the ADORABLE dinosaur bibs or five million onesies that were OMGWTFBBQ-cute. I took a look at a couple pack and plays, since I still haven't bought one (Mom's treat).

I'm not sure which comfy chairs you mean, but... according to the Starbucks interior design people for our region, they're going to be replacing the purple velvet ones in the Corner store with something more in the orange-beigey color scheme that is the current Starbucks design.

Which made me weep.

They did promise, however, that there WOULD continue to be comfy couches, as that's the hang-out-for-hours location.

Our brand new just-built one has reasonably comfy chairs, although no couches or giant armchairs. Or velvet. They're very beige and brown. Sniff.

There's a Charbucks on the Corner now? Say it ain't so. This means they replaced one of the independent places, doesn't it?

On the other hand, you gots a Target! Yay!

It's been there since before I moved down here--in the old bank building on the west end of the Corner, right on the corner of Elliewood, opposite Mincer's.

The Target is in the soon-to-be-endless sprawl north of town. I'd sworn a solemn vow to not shop out there (it's a pain to get there with traffic these days), but . . . eh. Needed to check out some things.

I think I'm going to buy one for the house here for when you visit. So if you want, choose one you like and I will get a different one so you will have 2.

Love, Mom
