I've been kind of hesitant to post much--not that I normally have both hands free to make posting easy. I think I'm afraid of jinxing what we have.

Things are very, very good. The baby is a baby--he eats, poops, sleeps, barfs . . . often managing to do all of those at the same time. Yes, my child can binge and purge at the same time. He really only cries when he has gas or when he's having his diaper changed while he's hungry. He won't eat if he has a drop of anything in his pants. But I expected angry diaper changes and gassiness, so those aren't a big deal. Jericho hides when Ronan cries, then comes back out to make sure everyone's feet still taste like feet. He's a good dog.

Tom reads to him quite frequently. The baby seems to prefer Virgil to A.A. Attanasio (and who can blame him?). I occasionally read Russian stories or cereal boxes.

He sleeps well. He normally wakes up twice, but the second wake time is often in the 7-9 range, which isn't really a middle of the night feed, though it's still before we awaken. Last night, I woke up nursing him. I had to pull my boob out of my bra and gown to do that, plus I apparently also placed a rolled prefold behind his back. So cool. Of course, I have no clue how long this went on before I fully woke and looked at the clock.

We went to the farmer's market and the Mom Expo yesterday. We chatted with the vendor who sold us boy's Hotsling. She helped us figure out how to situate our wee one properly. I tried on some Hotslings and realized my boobs are just too big and my torso too short--not a good combo for a sized pouch. I ended up trying on a Zolowear ring sling. I was hesitant to try ringslings, but I figured out a good position for it and I really want a sling for pool/beach time this summer, so I came home and put in an order for a solarveil Zolo. I also have an Ergo--just ordered the infant insert. I might sew up a Mei Tai and I still intend to make a plain ol' five yard wrap.

Also at the Mom Expo--folks who teach baby massage. That might prove useful with our gassy one. I don't anticipate his gassiness easing much. It's part latch, but I think a lot of it is just inherently *him*. He's my kid, after all.

I bought more tomatoes (sungold plants) at the market. My last plant got chomped 6" above the ground--I suspect the groundhog. It might survive yet (some branches lower down), but I figured I should add more to the garden. My various wildflower mixes are giving me surprises--red clover, bachelor buttons, and primroses this week. :)

My in-laws came back down this weekend. My MiL was suffering baby withdrawal. They left this afternoon, after lunch. We walked up and down the downtown mall and went to Five Guys. Tom wore his sling. I'm surprised he hasn't taken sling and urchin over to the Grounds and tried to pick up sexy co-eds. He gets a lot of attention when wearing the baby. ;)

I got tired of being inside alone while Tom was doing yardwork today, so I took the baby outside and nursed in the front yard. Lost track of time and the urchin ended up suckling for an hour. He's only barfed up half of it so far, I expect the rest will follow shortly.

Sciatica is somewhat better, though it starts wearing on me if I walk a lot or carry anything heavier than half a baby. Lots of pubic bone pain. Most of the afterpains have settled, but I still get twinges during the more voracious nursing sessions.

I'm enjoying getting out in the afternoons . . . coffee, the park, anything low-key that doesn't require long distances to walk. Anyone local who wants to hang out should say so.

I wish I was more local!

Sounds wonderful, apart from the gas. ;-)

I hope you can visit one day. :) Maybe we can all get together in Virginia . . . [livejournal.com profile] deyo and I can road-trip out with the dogs. :)

:-) :-) :-).

I'm glad you're happy, glad it's high spring and you've a baby who sleeps and cuddles and loves his sling. And I'm glad the sciatica is settling a bit.

*hugs*

I have a cotton Zolo....loved loved loved it. Only ring sling that didn't cause me major pain in my old karate/interpreting shoulder injury.

I do have to hold the boob off his face in certain positions, or he starts snuffling and pulls off. Folks who say "you can't suffocate your baby" don't have boobs like this. On the other hand, he has enough control/instinct to get away from the massive things, provided they're not plopped squarely on top of him, preventing him from moving at all.

See he has more intelligence than most adult men. :)

People who say "you can't suffocate your baby" also can't accidentally hit themselves in the face with their boobs.

It seems that we now have sons with the same name! Congrats on your new rugrat. Question for you....why is it that you call Tom "boy"?
