So, the problem is not actually my host, as I figured out yesterday, but my ISP.
I can't reach 25-30% of the webpages I attempt to navigate to, including parts of the NWS, my gym's page, anything from typepad . . . and really oddly, I can't load videos or images from youtube or flickr, but I can load the text on those pages. I can't reach my mail, though I *can* check it via mail2web, which I really dislike.
nannar came over and used his work VPN to get past our ISP's issues. I think he's having similar issues at home. Some other friends are also having slowdowns and scattered problems with access.
So,yesterday, I attempted to use Comcast's online support. They funneled me to Adelphia's online support because they don't service my area yet (they just take my money). Surprise, surprise, Adelphia's powerlink page is one of the sites which refuse to resolve for me.
My brother . . . down in FL . . . attempted to fill in the info for me (I was chatting with him in iChat) and for some reason, the live chat wouldn't work. It probably doesn't like Macs.
So I called the customer service line from the Adelphia bill. It funnelled me to Comcast. After repeatedly entering my phone number and choosing my language what seemed like half a dozen times, I was told by that vapid automated voice, "we're sorry. We're too busy to handle your request. We hope you can call back later." No freakin' option to wait.
My calmer side said, "hey, maybe the wait time is over an hour and LOTS of people are having problems." "Maybe it'll all be fixed in the morning."
It's not all fixed in the morning.
When Adelphia had major outages, they always had an automated message first thing on the service line. I'm not terribly impressed with Comcast after the last 24 hours.
