the biography of a cow
Apr. 27th, 2002 08:18 pmi don't eat meat, but boy does. we stick with organic, free-range poultry, pork, and beef as much as possible. his catfish is farmed, his mahimahi is not.
anyhow, we try to make sure that we buy *truly* grass-fed, free-range beef, even though it's not easy... as this article states, some stores claim the beef was grass-fed because ALL cattle are grass-fed in the beginning--it's the final months before slaughter that introduce grain, antibiotics, and heavily supplemented, unnatural-for-cattle-and-horrible-for-the-environment diets.
warning: may be graphic for sensitive folks who don't like to hear of overcrowded, filthy, and ultra-commercial feedlots.
