i took boy to georgetown today for his stomach CT scan. turns out that the barium drink they wanted him to imbibe is chock-full of corn. they tried to convince him that it wouldn't hurt him, but he stood his ground. i was proud, but i stared the radiologists down and told them that boy could under no circumstances ingest something he's allergic to. they sort of stared at me and said, "of course. he doesn't have to take it."

poor boy, he had to swallow the iodine solution they give to patients who can't swallow (feeding tubes), diluted with lots of water. turns out that the iodine works better than barium, anyway. he also had IV iodine. they were worried about THAT because boy tested positive for a crab allergy in january. he was fine for the test, thankfully.

anyhow, he's feeling better. he's coming to the conclusion that he has some anxiety issues. these are definitely exacerbating the food allergies, which may or may not persist.

anyhow--the new place we're renting...

it's in the boonies outside of charlottesville (sorry, [livejournal.com profile] xiane, i just fell in love with the boonies) on the outskirts of a large farm. the road it's on is called Langhorne Road. boy was born in langhorne, pennsylvania, so that's kind of neat.

it's not huge, but it's large enough for us. the yard is gated and rather open and large. the pastures nearby are also gated and fenced and full of cedar trees.

the house has two bedrooms, a living room, a dining room, a kitchen, storeroom, and bathroom on the first floor. the upstairs is a loft. hardwood floors, nice windows (not too many or too few), decent wiring. we'll need to provide our own window unit AC, Washer/Dryer, and we'll need to pay electric (plus dish network's satellite TV AND ISP services)... all the same, we'll be saving money, not counting the initial outlay for appliances and dish. and those are really an investment, anyhow.

there is a house across the road, but it's not visible--no other houses are visible from this one, in fact. the big house (as in ca 1800, huge and white plantation/mansion), outbuildings, and other tenants' homes are all a couple miles away (around the corner).

it's about 20-25 minutes from downtown charlottesville, off of 20 south. it's also not far from the james river. it's kind of like going home--yeah, i've never lived in virginia, but my Pace ancestors first set foot in jamestown and moved into virginia along the james river before they moved south and west. i can probably get some decent genealogical work done in the next few years.

i'm excited. i've been packing stuff--gargoyles, rats, dolls, skulls, matryoshki. fun, fun. :)

we're moving the last week/end in march. i need to put out the plea for moving help soon. i hope the promise of pizza or texmex, beer, and good music will lure some friends in.
