17 x 04, sunset at Raven's Roost

rootofnewtBoy and I headed for the mountains this past Sunday afternoon. We had two objectives: barbecue for boy and sunset for us.
It was windy up at Raven's Roost on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Really windy. It was brilliantly cold and crystal clear. I loved it. It was almost too windy to hold the camera steady.
boy huddled against the cold wind. I asked him if he wanted to go and he just made a face. It turns out that when the car is *right there*, he enjoys the cold, bracing wind that rips one's clothing open and blows one back toward the trees. he bounced up and jumped around like daffy duck or woody woodpecker--complete with the insane cackling. Had this been Hawksbill Mountain, he'd have been miserable, since the car would be at least 1.2 miles away. He'd have huddled up in a little ball and gotten all cranky. Trust me--I have pictures.
