a note about pictures

To my friends who frequently appear in my pictures.

I do not mind if you link to the pictures, of course. However, I'd like to request that you put them behind cut tags when posting img src links in communities. Otherwise, our bandwidth use goes up a notch with each community or friends page view someone on LJ does. When a community has 500+ members, those bits add up *quite quickly*. You don't want to see how huge our logs are from the past week.

If you absolutely must use a pic without a cut tag, please nab the pic and host it on your own server space (with attributions, preferably).

I stole a pic and made it one of my user icons. I love your pics, but I always make sure to take 'em off your server before I post 'em somewhere else. Bandwidth is precious! :)

i have no problems with taking of pics for user icons. i wouldn't be terribly happy with someone saying, "i took this picture of weird goths at some club in the basement of a sushi bar in virginia o_O" and then show a picture I took of you and will or something. ;)

(to my knowlege, nobody has stolen my pics like that. a few have been posted elsewhere, making my bandwidth go up pretty high. and a couple have made it to odd places, but with minimal impact. i won't ask about fire-breathing chickens... I know everyone who's posted it elsewhere and I'm sure they just didn't realize the impact it could have.)
