amazingly, a 2.5 hour detour in the Elkton, MD, emergency room did NOT turn this into our longest DC to Philly drive in history.

left around 7:30, arrived around 1. that's only 5.5 hours. it once took us eight because we were both too sick to see, breathe, or stay away for more than an hour at a time. that trip was a stupid one.

anyhow... on the balto beltway, boy informed me that he was having another attack. being near a large city, i asked if he wanted to go to the hospital. he said no. i stopped and pulled his inhaler out of the suitcase (stupid boy packing), just in case he needed it... he used it. took some allergy meds.

an hour later, he said he wasn't getting better and was now getting worse. up til now, he hadn't complained of breathing problems. so off i pull, last exit in maryland, not knowing if the magic blue H sign would send me into maryland or delaware.

after driving through a quaint downtown, i found the hospital, then found the ER entrance... walked in at 9:30... they took boy's info... waited a few minutes... took his vitals... waited a few minutes... called him into a room... waited a little bit... nurse came to get the story (third time now) of his problems... waited... reception nurse came to write down for the fourth time... (he's ina lovely robe at this point, mind you.)

doctor comes in... examines him... boy is starting to feel better. it's around 10:35 now... nurse comes back, takes blood, does EKG, sends boy for urine test, does orthostatic blood pressure exam... we wait while they do the labs... wait... wait... they come back around 11... turns out his potassium is low (probably not the cause) and his blood sugar is high... so that might be the problem. doctor gives us copies of labs, discharges boy, tells him to see his doc about a glucose tolerance test... i get directions to US 40 (decided i may as well since i was closer to that than I95 by now)... we drive up to NJ.

boy watches iron chef when we get to his parents'... i eat voraciously from the snacks we've brought... we go to bed around 3pm (boy at 2:30)...

boy's mom (nurse) pointed out that the levels on the lab for norms were for fasting tests. boy didn't fast, so his blood sugar might've been normal for having eaten 20 chicken mcnuggets at 7pm... anyhow, he has to be tested when we get home.

today, boy was too weary to do anything, so he stayed home with his dad while mom and i went shopping. we're good at that.

i scored buttons (boy's jacket needed a couple), thread, etc, at joanne's. boy's mom bought me a lovely black hat, some long beaded black gloves, and a halloween twisty black tree (plus bug ornaments, halloween candle ornament molds, and garland)... lots of sales there... that's all less than 15 bucks. the hat was originally 40-50 and the gloves were originally 20 or 30. :)

she bought boy couple shirts and some boxers (damn good, those, my period started and i had no undies... i always wear undies on my period, so i stole boy's clean boxer briefs and i can wash yesterday's for tomorrow)...

i bought a skirt (black rayony goodness) and a dress (very un goth pastel with flowers rayon twisty sundress)... lots o'sales today. i also got one of those wonder scarves, but it's really a sneed. a sneed is a fine thing most everyone needs! it's blue/black/grey. :) i still have some gift money, but i might just pay some bills.

i have not found a long cardigan-coat-sweater in crochety material in the requisite deep black yet. :/ they don't come easily in boobed-ness sizes. maybe LB has some.

went out to dinner tonight... had to quiz the staff again on food content. all the pizza dough contained a soy/olive blend. SIGH.

soy = evil

evil = not food

the chef said he'd make me a pasta plate without any pre-made stuff containing the blend, so i had spaghetti with tomatoes and mushrooms in what seemed to be a white wine garlic sauce. i'm not really sure. i just know that i didn't break out or die.

but i couldn't have the garlic bread. >:-(

so it goes.

*sigh* I really do hope you get an answer to boy's problems soon, this is disturbing as hell . . . dammit, *one* of you has to be healthy!! Gahhh . . . glad he's feeling better, or at least not in crisis, at the moment.

Wish Charlie a happy birthday when you see him next, Saturday (well, I'd say today but it's already tomorrow) was his birthday . . . yes, I'm up too late and on heavy pain meds, I knew I was high when I was convinced that I was dancing *well* . . . LOL!!

(((squishy hugs)))
