arrived after hellish traffic and major storms (including tornado warnings, as we discovered later)... i would have kept an eye on the sky during such a massive storm, but i couldn't see more than 100 feet and was concentrating on the road. after i passed the worst of it, the sky looked purple, so i wasn't too worried.

it's green skies we care about. ;)

anyhow... we tried to walk on the beach this evening, but it was closed, with EMS patrols going up and down the shore. there was at least one news crew. later, we watched the news and discovered that shortly after the search was called off, a man's body washed up further downshore. he was from Harrisonburg.

lightning also struck someone's house, and a boy drowned in his pool in Chesapeake. My in-laws have chosen to vacation in the Apocalypse Zone.

On the other hand, we should be fairly safe the rest of the week.

I downloaded evil compuserve software onto boy's machine before we left... we're using the in-laws' account, but not often. i'm on vacation. ;)

It's bedtime.

Hmm... Harrisonburg... odd... o_O?
*blink blink*
tired.
Apocalypse is okay really... as long as it comes with some sense of urgency, or something... I don't know, I should be sleeping now.

Hey, look at it as an exciting vacation, rather than a relaxing one. You just don't know what will happen next! ;)

Hey, are you guys going to be down the shore the whole week? Lemme know if you venture back somewhere near this way and want to do anything ... er, well, exciting. :)

Last week, the Apocalypse Zone was around my house. This week, it's where you are. Please don't send it back to me.

I apparently used up all the good weather when I was down that way.

Um, no. Virginia Beach. As far as I know, NJ doesn't have one of those. It has other beaches, but none called Virginia Beach. ;)

Green skies indeed...

At various times tonight, there have been tornado warnings to the north, south, and east of me. I'm ready to duck and cover at any moment.

As for your Vacation of Doom, it reminds me of this year's annual Taste of Minnesota. It's not really a laughable matter, but the first night a kid fell from a bluff to his death, and the second night a woman threw her twin infant sons in the Mississippi River and then jumped in herself. They managed to pull her and one of the twins out, but the other drowned.

So I started referring to the event as the Taste of Death.

Hope your vacation gets more relaxing.

I left out the guy in the motorized parachute chair who got stuck in a tree. And all the local restaurants are having memorials for a police officer who died in the line of duty.

On the other hand, we're very close to Oceana Naval Air Station. As I told boy after the gazillionth fighter jet soared overhead at a low altitude as we floated in the surf: "Disarmament, my ass."

Of course, watching jets over the ocean is fun stuff.
