Yesterday, we quickly cleaned up the kitchen, left notes for the fabulous Miss. [livejournal.com profile] eilonwy, and locked Jerry in his crate before heading up toward NoVA. The traffic on I-95 was horrid--volume delays from Fredericksburg to our exit, though we had minimal issues once we got in the HOV lanes at Dumfries. Still, though, 30 miles of traffic doom on a Sunday night? Ick.

We found a Whole Foods very near Jaxx, so I was able to get some dinner and boy had healthier fare than pub food. I also had food for eating on the way home. Yay for not starving! There's a Trader Joe's near there, too, so if we ever venture that way again, I'll try to build in some time for TJ stocking up--nuts, seeds, pasta.

Todesbonden was great. Their set started before we got in the door, which was disappointing--Jaxx should've opened the doors earlier (they opened nearly an hour late) or at LEAST let ticketholders in the doors first. I still hate the soundsystem at Jaxx, but Todesbonden sounded pretty darn good in spite of the muddifying audio. I hope they can make it down here at some point. I wanted to buy a tshirt, but waited too long to decide and by then, the crush at the merch table was overwhelming, so I fled.

Giant Squid surprised me and I was very happy. They were quirky and odd and I now have a giant squid tshirt. Yay!

Unexpect had some technical problems, but put on a damn good show. Neat mix of weird-as-heck vocals and death metal grunts/roars and soaring female vocals. Very fun. Reminded me of a doomier Estradasphere in the carnivalesque flair. Boy bought their CD so he could examine the intricacies of the music more closely. They are definitely masters of their instruments. Very cool.

The Gathering is always good. They always make me happy, even when the guitarist starts skipping and plays the same chord for five minutes during the second set/encore. He always does that. It's boy's favorite song. As always, they're worth the drive and the club stench and the long days of aching that await me. We bought the CD we didn't have yet. Yay!

After the long drive home (aided by the iPod and the grunts of my boy, of course), I came home to a very happy poodle.

I will vegetate the rest of the week. I'll try to do some warm water exercise tomorrow during [livejournal.com profile] babyrapture's swim lesson, but I am otherwise on couch rest. I have a poodlebug to keep me company and a husband with the same vocal range as Anneke van Giersbergen. Life is good.
