rootofnewt: (burple)
Is today Friday?

The house is a mess. I need to clean. I think [livejournal.com profile] seeliespright is supposed to come over to sew later, though I should probably talk to him to see what time he needs a ride. (no special showering required, btw, whatever you normally use doesn't seem to make me sick. No irish spring, please!)

I need to shower. I need to get dressed. I did eat, so no need to do any more of that (fried rice, yum).

[livejournal.com profile] explodingcat has homework and lab stuff to do, along with work. Today is the first day we can look at insurance enrollment options, so we're scrutinizing our options. After he prints out the info sheets, I'll start checking out doctors who are covered. AETNA is an option and though I'm still pissed off at them (they STILL haven't reimbursed me for supposedly covered custom splints), they *did* shell out tens of thousands of dollars without too much complaint in 2002. Sure, they tried to weasel out of it, but my cardiothoracic surgeon put the fear of god (or was it the Medical Oversight Review Board?) in them and they assumed the position.

Tonight, I'll attempt to make that fleece robe I bought the fixins' for last year. I might not have enough fusible web, but I can deal with that when I come to it.

I think I'll separate a couple loads of laundry and then take my shower. After that, I can dust the dining room floor so that it's clean clean clean.

I really want caffeine, but I'm trying to go without it and HFCS I'm not sure that's really feasible. I have some Kosher for Passover Coca Cola in the pantry. That's free of HFCS, so I could crack open a new two liter and enjoy the small amount of caffeine in it.
I'm amazed at the lengths some women on [livejournal.com profile] longhair go to straighten their not-straight hair and then try to make it shiny.

Having stick-straight super-fine hair isn't all it's cracked up to be. It doesn't stay in barrettes or ponytail holders. It won't hold curl. Anytime you see my hair with any sort of crimp or wave, it's because I braided it while it was wet, slept on it, then made sure not to take it out until it was dry (in other words--lazy hair day). It shows the slightest bit of oil, so when I oil my scalp, my hair looks grimy. It takes a few weeks for my hair to adjust to winter (I stop washing it daily when the pollen counts drop out of sight). In that particular picture, any "wave" is actually just the way my slightly damp hair is falling over my shoulders and boobs.

The grass is always greener. I've had complete strangers come up to me on my bad hair days (lank, limp, won't stay in a bun or ponytail, but it's shiny) and gush about how they want my hair. They invariably have hair that is interesting, hair that is wildly curly or upredictably wavy. It's always beautiful, yet they want my hair that will not obey the simplest instructions without being compelled to do so while wet and gelled with flax (and that wet styling leads to broken strands and flyaways). My hair isn't good for much besides being straight and shiny and limp and completely without body.

It is, however, exceedingly good for putting up in pigtails, braiding, twisting into buns, pinning down, and covering with yarn. Oh, yes, it's insanely good for that.
