just pulled down the tomato vines and piled them up, pulled out their cages, pulled out the stages, the ties, etc. i need to weedwhack down the grass which grew up around them. i also pulled out one pokeweed that i know the landlord would want to kill. the other is hidden under some kind of flower i planted (no clue, big, soft clumps of leaves, no flowers on it). i also pulled out the weeds in the flower sillbox--some love in a mist is popping up again!. i dumped the bachelor button seed pods onto the soil. i'm going to remove the maple seeds, stir up the soil a little, and cover it with mulch for the winter.

i need to pot the avocado seedling. i'll use the rabe pot. need to dump the soil--i'll do that in the tomato bed.

i should go look at the green tomato volunteers--see how they're doing. they're NOT any of mine... i thought they might've been one of my roma seedlings i accidentally tossed too far (they didn't sprout well), but it's not a roma plant.

the squirrels are not happy that i'm working in the yard.

the mosquitoes *knock on wood* seem to have been frozen out. YAY! we haven't had more than a couple soft freezes, either.

found some weird cocoons on one of the tomato cages. nifty.

waiting on boy to come liberate the extension cord from the spider house.

turnip greens with sauteed onions and garlic, served with a balsamic honey mustard sauce
turnip and potato mash
a light onion gravy
roasted garlic bread (store-bought)

boy made himself Louisiana Catfish

the turnips were certified organic from one of our favorite farms--Double H. quite yummy. i just bought them this morning. we also bought things for boy--bacon, meatballs... we have ground beef in the freezer from them. i have popcorn (on the cob!) from them, too. it's really tasty.

In honor of our trailbook...

When some people think of waterfalls, they think of rushing torrents. Other people think of calm, forested falls which are almost dainty. Now, we typically visit the lacy, small falls, the type with a small natural reflecting pool and lots of trees to cast interesting shadows.

staying home

we have a type of assassin bug--the wheel bug--living in our yard. we have quite odd good luck in finding these critters. they seem to like boy and reveal themselves to him. maybe they think he looks tasty.

anyhow, i really really really want to go to the dawning tonight.

but...

i'm crampy. i'm achy. i need to make pita bread and hummus before i go to bed. i was out last night and the night before and the night before. and i'll be out tomorrow night. i did yard stuff today and grocery shopping and cooking.

tonight, i must rest. this makes me sad, as i'd like to see Tristan play.

ah, well. i've pushed my limits way too far this week. i shouldn't push so far i fall over the edge and crash.

i should go put the pita dough fixins in the bread machine. then maybe do some dishes.
