yes. it's one of those nights.

so far i've made no-bake cookies and chocolate spice bars. i didn't put nuts in the spice bars... and i only had 3/4 cup light brown sugar, so i used a 3/4 cup turbinado sugar with nearly a tablespoon of blackstrap.

yum.

and earlier tonight, i boiled some fresh green beans, then tossed them with olive oil, sesame seeds, garlic, red pepper flakes, and lemon juice. they were great, except the recipe called for me to toss them with 1 tsp of red pepper flakes... i used 1 tablespoon.

oops. fire. in my mouth. weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

that's enough for me.

too much sugar.

and pepper.

dessert

Hey, can I come over for dessert? I really need some chocolate--I've searched all over the house and we have none. :( Well, Mom and I go to the grocery store tomorrow thank goodness. She's supposed to make peach pie too before those peaches rot. I'd help but I'm not supposed to...:)

heh, you can stop by anytime. :)

i'm one of those people who loves feeding those she loves. i'm not sure why. sure, i'm midwestern (and dad's half is from mississippi), but i don't remember people being all "eat this! eat eat eat!" when i was a kid. some of my current friends' parents are like this. they're italian, lebanese, jewish, russian... sharing is love.

okay... um, yeah. my urge to feed (make folks comfortable, really) IS hoosier hospitality. i just remembered how freaked out boy was when i took him to visit a friend... nobody was home, so i walked in (door was unlocked), let the dogs out to relieve themselves, grabbed a coke from the fridge, and sat down to write a note. he felt like a burglar, i was just at my "second" home--my best friend's home. her mom changed a lot of my diapers when i was a baby and fed me LOTS of strawberry jam over the years. she'd be offended if i didn't help myself to something. ;)

boy is still freaked out by this.

Hot hot hot!!

Hey, you know, I've found eating spicy stuff helps with the fibromyalgia, I think all the pain in your mouth distracts you from your joints hurting ha ha....no seriously, evidently there is some kind of biochemical stuff in hot peppers, etc that helps your body.
Also, did not know you were from Hoosierland!! I sit in the heart of it, have lived here all my life, as we speak.
(humming "It's A Small World After All" and getting ready to go get a shower and go out for Thai food...talk about spicy!)

i'm do not fear nightshade

is a good thing... peppers are lovely. i like spicy foods, even spicy-hot. red curry paste, however, makes me nauseous. it's a little too hot and not sufficiently spicy, i think. i like hot peppers because they speed up my metabolism. i feel more energetic for awhile. :) the capsaicin [sp?] must do good things to joints, too.

as for hoosierland. born and raised there. :) came to DC for uni and ended up staying in the area. i'd love to go back, but my husband fears tornados more than anything else. since his only nightmares involve tornados, i'm trying to respect his wish to avoid tornado alley. *sigh* i miss having real weather.
