you know... being booed offstage would be a horrible thing.
i, however, have no regrets at having booed incessantly at really horrible bands/vocalists.
IMO, someone should have taken fred durst aside long ago and said "you can't sing. you can produce damn well. you have good ideas... but you should never go near a microphone unless it's strictly in an emcee capacity."
surely people who can't sing for shit know this before they go onstage? do they not expect a horrid reaction? i know *I* can't sing and would never inflict that on an audience unless it was strictly for charity. seeing limp bizkit open for faith no more several years ago nearly ruined my mood for the night. durst's lack of vocal talent nearly overshadowed patton's incredible voice.
fortunately, i was able to retain enough of a good mood to just see FNM as highly superior in contrast. still, though...
after seeing dillinger escape plan open for another Patton band, i've started wondering if patton doesn't just look for opening acts with vocalists who can't manage to muster even a modicum of talent. and knowing that DEP was a core band just made it worse... i mean, come on--at least scream/grunt well...

Yes, I've put some thought into this.

Date: 2003-09-08 07:51 am (UTC)When I was, uhh, 16, I saw FNM play a bill with Guns N Roses and Metallica. I was pleasantly surprised at how good Patton sounded and even more pleased with James Hetfield. Axl Rose, unfortunately, sounded like he was gargling (and wasn't even doing that quite so successfully).
I'm constantly in awe over how much hoopla any Guns N Roses reunion musters up. Axl shouldn't be allowed near a microphone, if you ask me.
